Pro-Russian protesters who seized the regional government building in Donetsk, Ukraine are reported to have declared a "people's republic".
Footage online showed a Russian speaker telling the assembly "I proclaim the creation of the sovereign state of the People's Republic of Donetsk."
The rebels are reported to have called a referendum on forming a new republic.
Earlier on Monday, protesters seized state security buildings in both Donetsk and Luhansk.

On Monday, the occupying protesters proclaimed the creation of the "Donetsk People's Republic," ruled by the self-declared "Supreme Soviet," the Interfax news agency reported. The protesters later voted to call a referendum in the next month on declaring independence, Interfax said. It wasn't clear whether they had enough support to impose their demands, however.
Russia's state-run Rossiya-24 news network covered the event live, while Interfax reported that Ukrainian media were kept out of the building. One of the protest leaders read an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying, "We appeal to you, Vladimir Vladimirovich, as our only defender. Without your support, without the support of Russia, it will be difficult for us to hold out against the junta on our own."
The crowd chanted, "Putin, Putin," according to the Russian broadcast. Russian officials, as well as opponents of the government in Kiev, refer to it the "junta."

The Ukrainians, for overthrowing Putin's stooge, Yanukovich, for trying to install himself as dictator-for-life. After all, an elected official should be able to abolish freedom of speech and freedom of assembly - isn't that what elections are all about, to select the lifetime dictator of one's choice, once? (sarcasm alert)
Blame me for it... but you have to ask yourself why the Kiev regime is fast losing ground in the eastern half of the country. Its considered illegitimate.
And it and its Western partners have a big problem. One that won’t be overcome by blaming Russia and it won’t be solved through the use of force.

The Soviets relocated native Russians to Ukraine/Crimea. Who does the Soviets send to the most sensitive areas, the border, nuclear plants, research areas...etc? => They send the most zealous communists and these are their sons.
