Univ. of Leicester students: Noah’s Ark would've floated w/ two each of 35,000 species of animal

NOAH’S Ark would have floated — even with two of every animal on board, physicists have determined based on the weight of the beasts and the buoyancy of the boat.

The students from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester who came to this conclusion used the dimensions for the boat that were given in the Bible.

In the book of Genesis, Noah is commanded to build an ark which is 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high to house himself, his family and two of every species of animal.

For the study, the students settled on a cubit being 48.2cm long and found the ark could support the weight of 2.5 million sheep. The university said that previous research suggested there were approximately 35,000 species of animals in Noah’s time.

The students said it was not clear if all the animals would actually be able to fit on board. But if they did, the boat would still float.

Student Thomas Morris, 22, said: “You don’t think of the Bible necessarily as a scientifically accurate source of information, so I guess we were quite surprised when we discovered it would work. We’re not proving that it’s true, but the concept would definitely work.”

The full paper, The animals float two by two, hurrah!, was published in a peer-reviewed student journal.

Research lead Oliver Youle, 22, explained the science behind the study.

“Every object when immersed in a liquid has an upwards force acting against it — a buoyancy force; it also has a weight acting downwards — a downwards force, and in order for it to float, these two forces need to be equal.”(continued)

“The students said it was not clear if all the animals would actually be able to fit on board. But if they did, the boat would still float.”

Yeah, that’s not very clear but whatever floats your boat, boys.
There are 6.5 million known species found on land and 2.2 million dwelling in the oceans, rivers and lakes.

And most of them have particular diets, for ex. that cute little `bear’ from Down Under can thrive only on fresh eucalyptus leaves. Keep in mind that Noah was also ordered to load chow for his own family and food and fresh water for over 17 million animals, who understood they were not to eat one another. (But once things got back to normal, about 190 days after the rain started, the prey/predator relationship and meat-eating for the heads of the food chain—OK.)

Considering that Jehovah then gave Noah and his family, wife, sons and daughters-in-law, only seven (7) days notice of his additional desire to have seven more of all the “clean animals” added to the cargo, I think Noah deserves congratulations for his ability to exhort his crew to gather these scores of millions of additional specimens, all from the four corners of the Earth and from beneath the seven seas, in time.
(Further complicating the storage problem is that water species prefer either salt or fresh water, so we’ll have to assume that most of the sea creatures made out OK on their own, e.g. the larger whales, even if the rain was not salty.)

On top of these difficult logistics, Noah was getting up there in age. I sure hope that I’m that fit when I hit 500 years. I love this story. It’s absolutely incredible!

What I think about that is ... how many dog varieties are there ... and then ... how many dog kinds are there?

Jesus used those stories to explain things in ways that we would understand. Not literal truth.

Anyone can believe that but none can KNOW it.

I look at a hummingbird and understand without cutting into it's skull that it has a brain capable of facial recognition. There's not one person on earth can explain the exact processes by which that brain works. But the hummingbird still has a brain. And it can still recognize faces. This, FRiend, is what Faith is.

If anyone were to research it honestly, there is conclusive archeological evidence for the great flood.

“From hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe and oxygen, the third most common element in the universe.”

It's almost like English.

NOAH was in JESUS’ genology that traces back to ADAM.
TO DENY EXISTED IS TO DENY JESUS EXISTED.

6 When Seth had lived 105 years, he became the father of Enosh. 7 After he became the father of Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters. 8 Altogether, Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then he died.

9 When Enosh had lived 90 years, he became the father of Kenan. 10 After he became the father of Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters. 11 Altogether, Enosh lived a total of 905 years, and then he died.

12 When Kenan had lived 70 years, he became the father of Mahalalel. 13 After he became the father of Mahalalel, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and daughters. 14 Altogether, Kenan lived a total of 910 years, and then he died.

15 When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he became the father of Jared. 16 After he became the father of Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters. 17 Altogether, Mahalalel lived a total of 895 years, and then he died.

18 When Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of Enoch. 19 After he became the father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 20 Altogether, Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then he died.

21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. 24 Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

25 When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he became the father of Lamech. 26 After he became the father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters. 27 Altogether, Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died.

28 When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. 29 He named him NOAH and said, “He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed.” 30 After NOAH was born, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters. 31 Altogether, Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then he died.

32 After NOAH was 500 years old, he became the father of SHEM, HAM and JAPETH.

It was a rhetorical question and everyone failed. Where did all the “current” water in the oceans come from and why is it there?

Note: this topic is from 4/03/2014. Not pinging, just adding to the catalog. Ludicrous.

All that's required is, all 70,000 animals be fed into a juicer and stored in one large container, then the cubic feet figures will work. That would also solve the problem of having to feed them for six months. Of course, all of them would be dead...
With modern power tools it took over 300 man-years of labor to build each of the Ark 'replicas'.
