2010: Admiral: President Obama Gave Us Choice to Accept Gays in Military or Resign
Breitbart's Big Peace ^ | April 1, 2014 | AWR Hawkins

Posted on 04/03/2014 12:20:40 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Robert Papp said that in 2010 Obama told U.S. military leaders to accept his push for gays in the military, and that if they didn't, they could take the "opportunity to resign [their] commissions."

Papp said these things in a video BuzzFeed obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The video shows a speech Papp delivered to Coast Guard Academy cadets during which he was asked how he would deal with enforcing an order with which he didn't agree. He used the story of his 2010 meeting with Obama as an example of how service members' duties can be compelling and conflicting with personal desires....

You act like they were ordered to round up and murder US civilians. Not even close. Perhaps if they’d had the pro-military, anti-homosexual MSM involved to plead their case...

I wish a reporter would ask obama if it’s ok now for him to come out of the closet?

I act like they made a really bad decision. Which they did. All the sexually assaulted soldiers they failed would likely agree.

The MSM is no excuse for an officer putting their career ahead of their men. Allen West is praised for standing up and tanking his career rather than giving in to PC over his men. Was he wrong to do so?

Allen West was crucified by politically correct assholes who’ve never seen a day in combat. FReepers who haven’t spent their entire lives pursuing the top tiers of their chosen profession are demanding crucifixion of senior leaders b/c they didn’t do what the FReepers wanted them to do. To hell with the personal consequences, though, it’s not like those FReepers have to take care of these people, right? A martyr is much preferred for talking points, after all.

If they had any guts they all would have resigned. Every General and admiral put in their papers and walk.

Sure I was.

Worked with some good officers, and also had some surrender monkeys.

Serious question. What kind of leader goes along with actions that will harm his company or country? A good one or a bad one?

What kind of leader finds flushing his career more repulsive than standing for his oath/beliefs? A good one or a bad one?

Lastly, would you personally put your country or your career first?

The goal is to turn the military into a new force who will follow orders no matter what.

They have succeeded.

I have been in that situation. I left. I was told that I would never rise up the ladder because of my ethics.

So be it. See I was raised to take a stand if needed, and to know that the stand will result in you getting hit. My Grandfather and Father taught me many things, this is one of the major lessons that I have followed all my life, and will continue to.

I will not compromise my morals or ethics. That means I make many very angry, most of whom did compromise.

All your arguments are predicated on the idea that allowing homosexuals to serve openly is harming the country. While I agree there will be a general decay of the culture which the civilian world is already leaps and bounds ahead of us on, there’s no evidence to say that it’s truly harming anyone or anything. Homosexuals have been serving more or less openly for many years now. I knew of a half-dozen or more within a 100m radius of my desk in Afghanistan nearly five years ago.

And I still haven’t heard how the brass resigning was supposed to help the situation.

which one of us, having spent years on the job would not want to protect that long term investment in our future? (Probably not many).

I have stood up for principle several times. That and $2 will buy me a cup of coffee. Didn’t change a thing but I would do it all over again.

That is a bit of an insult to Chamberlain.

He DIDN'T surrender his ethics. He was part of a generation that had grown to view war as the worst possible thing. His stand made sense to him, and he knew it was going to have consequences.

He was wrong, but he did make his stand.

Are you freaking serious? Really? Lets skip the fact you ignored my questions. NO evidence? You serieZ?

Two words “Chelsea” Manning. By itself ‘it’ is proof positive homosexuality has directly negatively impacted the military and America.

Well, call it what you will, but his understanding of ethics, however learned, got a lot of people killed and cemented his place in history.

Manning was a result of people looking the other way. Same as Hasan. Homosexuality may have been a reason, but it wasn’t the cause.

And I didn’t answer your questions b/c your premise was flawed.

Hell, going by FR’s response to Snowden, I’m surprised Manning isn’t hailed as a hero around here. I guess it all goes to supposed intent.

He had a fit because of his gay beliefs. Snowden is a whole different scenario.

What of all the people infected with AIDS? No harm you say?

What of all the families screwed up because of gay drama? I speak from experience there.

What of any of a million things showing clearly and unambiguously the damage ‘gay’ has done to the planet? “Gay” helped destroy empires for God sakes.

My premise is solid. You refuse to address a very direct question to the very relevant issue. Nothing more.
