Ukraine crisis: Poland asks Nato to station 10,000 troops on its territory

Poland asked Nato to station 10,000 troops on its territory on Tuesday as a visible demonstration of the Alliance's resolve to defend all its members after Russia's seizure of Crimea.

Nato foreign ministers met in Brussels to consider requests for soldiers to be deployed in Poland and the Baltic States, all of which share borders with Russia.

Nato generals and admirals have been ordered to devise ways to better protect alliance members that feel threatened by Russia, and "all practical civilian and military cooperation" with Russia.

President Vladimir Putin has massed about 40,000 troops near Ukraine's eastern frontier, giving himself the option of seizing more of his neighbour's territory.

On Monday, he assured Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, that some of these forces would be withdrawn. But the ministers disclosed that Russia had yet to keep this promise.

"We've had some statements from Russia about pulling back forces from the eastern border, but we haven't seen the evidence yet," said William Hague, the Foreign Secretary.

Meanwhile, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the Nato secretary general, said he could not "confirm that Russia is withdrawing its troops" and warned of the dangers posed by a "massive military build-up".

Against this background, Radek Sikorski, the Polish foreign minister, asked for "two heavy brigades" of armoured infantry, with about 5,000 troops each, to be stationed in his country. Poland has a 144-mile border with Russia's Kaliningrad enclave.

"It is very important that all members should enjoy the same level of security," said Mr Sikorski. "Poland has been a member of Nato for 15 years now – and so far the only permanent military institution that we have is a conference centre, training facility. We would welcome a prominent, major presence."

Donald Tusk, the Polish prime minister, has expressed frustration over Nato's reluctance to deploy troops...

OH....Wait.... They mean US troops, and the US paying for it

The idea is that Russia won't dare to attack U.S. troops. The number 10 0000 thousand against a full scale invasion will make the them not more than hostages. But the USA would have to engage for Poland.

Anyway the idea of a Russian full-scale attack on Poland is as probable as of asteroid hit.

Its all happened before at the hands of "peace in our times" coercive utopian liberals with the modern treasonous version now being pseudo Nobel Peace Prize winner, Obama. Just read in the word Crimea below for Czechoslovakia. Obama just sold Crimea and other territory to Russia( territory yet unknown) while posturing at NATO conference as a Nobel Peace Prize winning sage. In truth, Obama is a traitorous bastid, betraying US allies at every turn.

The Munich Agreement, otherwise known as the Munich Pact, was signed on September 30, 1938 between Nazi Germany, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom. With Czechoslovakia having an earlier agreement with France and the United Kingdom to protect it in case of attack or invasion. The relative ease with which the German-speaking regions of Czechoslovakia were handed over to Germany stunned many at the time. It became clear that it was only a matter of time before a military conflict would arrive. The Munich agreement spelled an escalation of hostilities and paved the way for the eventual invasion of Poland in 1939 – i.e. the official beginning of the Second World War.

Yet the Poles will fight, and they yet again are getting ready,as they did in WWII even after their nation fell and after the coercive utopian Chamberlainists were routed from Europolitik,NOW squaring off with Obama and demanding troops. Obama will act immediately to prevent it. Watch for it.....indicating Obamas traitorous action trade off so Russian will defuse Iran or some such "brilliant" leftist drivel.

Kennedy would not put extra troops in Europe over Berlin for fear of a direct confrontation and then things spiralling out of control. I have no way of knowing if that was the best decision but I expect the risks were weighed and the decision was reasonable. Ukraine could become a similar situation and we cannot predict what Obama will do. But a wrong step could put us in absolute peril. Who’s to say Obama will make the best decision?

Russian active personnel is about half of that. Anyway it's not that 10k troops could defend Poland (which is not under direct threat at the moment anyway) but in case of attack, countries deploying them (like USA) would have to become involved... so logically the risk of attack is decreasing significantly as Russia rather wouldn't risk war with America, besides it would be a signal that NATO is alive and could possibly prevent further annexation of Ukrainian territory. Additionally it's a good opportunity to test how much NATO’s security guarantees are worth (in my opinion nothing and no significant military force will be deployed in Poland) better now than when Russian “peacekeepers” cross Estonian border.
