Most of us already suspect that environmentalists are dictatorial wolves dressed in the democracy sheepskin. Despite all the lip service they pay to justice and liberty, they are really all about state power and regulation.
So it is with Germanys authoritarian statists and greens, who not long ago called for the enactment of a nationwide Veggie Day once a week in order to start weaning people off climate-killing diets containing meat. Fortunately the citizens roundly rejected the nonsense, sending the wackos off to return another day. Electric heater
German city of Bremen attempts to form a green police to enforce proposed ban of electric heaters.
Well, that another day has already arrived. The latest suggested intrusion into and control over our private lives is reported by the Liberal website of Friedrich Naumann Foundation For Liberty.
In the northern port city of Bremen, just a single hour away from the home of NoTricksZone, officials are now busily playing lets-save-the-planet and zealously committing the city to cutting its carbon footprint by 40% by 2020 compared to 1990 levels.

How is this to be done? The Liberal writes (my emphasis):
"One of the planned measures: The ban of electric heaters. What sounds like one of the usual injection of fuel into the green bonfire of bans in fact takes on a whole new quality. The proposed law by Environment Senator Joachim Lohse foresees a system of monitoring that allows for detection of violations and punishment. According to the Weser-Kurier daily, officials would in carrying out the duties of their office, tread upon private property and enter private buildings. The provision of the German Constitution for the inviolability of the home would in this respect be curtailed. The Liberal adds:
"Here Lohse is creating nothing less than an environment police. As mentioned, the proposed law for the city of Bremen of course would clash with Article 13 of the German Constitution which guarantees private individuals the inviolability of the home. But in the City of Bremen, which is run by a coalition of climate protection-obsessed socialists and greens, little things like Constitutional Rights are not about to stop their hunt for electric radiators as part of their mission to rescue the planet. After all its far more vital to improve the citys carbon footprint and to promote sustainability then it is to uphold the Federal Constitution.
In their distorted minds, not having an electric heater is more important than having fundamental Constitutional rights.

Scene from BECKET:
King Henry gets wet in a rain storm and seeks shelter in a hovel.
Henry: GIVE ME FIRE AND WARMTH!
Becket: You will find no fire her sire.
Henry: And why is that!
Becket: Every family is allowed two measures of wood a year. One stick more and they are hanged.
Henry: MY edict?
Becket: Your edict sire.
So instead of using a smaller heater to only heat the occupied space desired, they want you to use MORE energy to heat the whole building????
Or, do as the British do... murder them before being born, and then use them for fuel.

1. You will come to regret doing this the next time you paint the room. Frequent candle use leaves a film of wax on everything, which prevents new paint from adhering to the old paint.
2. The $ per Watt-hour from candles are much more expensive than from electricity.
3. Ask any fire inspector -- the number of residential fires from candles is much higher than the number from electricity, even though all homes have electricity and only some have candles.
Enviromentalism is just another face of the eugenics crowd. It has nothing to do with conservation, and everything to do with stalin-esque capitulation through starvation.
I think you must be thinking of New Braunfels down near
San Antonio.
My Mother lives in "Seisure World", Seal Beach, Ca., the homes are all electric. Having been built in the early sixties the have that oh so efficient(not) radiant heat coils in the ceilings. If it wasn't for her two small oil filled electric heaters she would either burn through her modest Social Security stipend or figgin freeze to death!
During the 1940s New Bremen had two schools, a business, and a number of scattered dwellings. Only a cemetery and the shell of its last school remained in 1990.
A cemetery and shell, how appropriate.
I have an OLD friend who lives near there and we DID visit it. I can't remember, she MIGHT have had a distant relative buried there. Since there were many Germans there, it would PROBABLY be her husband's distant relatives.
Ah me, the memory.
Of course, I COULD call her on the phone right this minute and ASK her. She would know.
But that would be WAY too easy, wouldn't it? :o)
LOVE that vehicle. I would LOVE one for the traffic!
Hey, I just remembered, I'm retired and don't drive in "the traffic" any more. Huzzah, huzzah!!!
And if post turtle Mitch and the GOPe win the Senate, it'll be the same thing.
An American steps outside his front door & sees that his neighbor has a brand new Mercedes. He thinks, “Wow! Someday I’m going to have a car just like that one!”
A German steps outside his house & sees the same luxury car. He grouses, “What gives him the right to drive such an expensive car?”
You can pry my schnitzel from my cold dead hands!!!
