Crimea seizure act of Russian 'weakness': Obama
Chicago Tribune ^ | March 25, 2014

Posted on 03/25/2014 12:26:46 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Russia and the West drew a tentative line under the Ukraine crisis on Tuesday after U.S. President Barack Obama and his allies agreed to hold off on more damaging economic sanctions unless Moscow goes beyond the seizure of Crimea.

Describing Russia as a "regional power" and not the biggest national security threat to the United States, Obama said Russian forces would not be removed militarily from Crimea, but the annexation of the Black Sea region was not a "done deal" because the international community would not recognise it.

~~~~snip~~~~
"Russia is a regional power that is threatening some of its immediate neighbors, not out of strength but out of weakness," Obama said. "We (the United States) have considerable influence on our neighbours. We generally don't need to invade them in order to have a strong cooperative relationship with them."
~~~~Obama 'splains that taking Crimea was not over his red line, but another step will be~~~~

Asked what was to stop a further Russian "land grab", the U.S. president drew a distinction between an attack on members of NATO, covered by its Article V mutual defence clause, and on non-members where the West could apply international pressure, shine a spotlight on those states and provide economic support.

~~~~all's well that ends well~~~~
The rouble firmed and Russian assets climbed on Tuesday after Obama and fellow G7 leaders held back from new sanctions and investors took the view that the crisis had been contained for now.
This is breaking?
Zero's cluelessness and empty posturing is not news at all.
They mention NATO and “mutual” but are now ignoring that 1994 Memorandum BECAUSE IIRC, it gives Crimea very special status. In fact, I don’t believe Crimea was even part of Ukraine’s original Constitution.
You know Jim maybe we can learn from this.
If Obama gets any weaker, he’s apt to seize
Canada or Mesico.
Leading from behind = strength
Only in the twisted, liberal fantasy world is left, right, and up, down.
My only surprise so far with Obama..., his head hasn’t caved in yet.
Talk about an empty vacuum...
I first thought Obama flubbed during an ad-lib session, but the photo showed him standing before the TOTUS. This must be the new market-tested strategy. Looks like the media is running with the laughable “Putin is weak” talking point.
“OK, if you cross THIS line,......”
What’s next, Pontiff Obammy? Does Putin care who “recognises” what Russia controls?
It’s like watching dyslectic Neophytes argue over answers to crossword puzzles. It’s embarrassing.
You could be right about that. It was the first thing that came to mind after listening to his remarks with the Dutch Prime Minister today at the Hague. It sounded as if he was almost daring Putin. Obama is dangerously immature in this area.
