24 Veterans Awarded the Medal of Honor

WASHINGTON (AP) — They were heroes who didn't get their due.

On Tuesday, 24 mostly ethnic or minority U.S. soldiers who performed bravely under fire in three of the nation's wars finally received the Medal of Honor that the government concluded should have been awarded a long time ago.

The servicemen were identified following a congressionally mandated review to ensure that eligible recipients of the country's highest recognition for valor were not bypassed due to prejudice. Only three of the 24 were alive for President Barack Obama to drape the medals and ribbons around their necks.

"Today we have the chance to set the record straight," Obama said. "No nation is perfect, but here in America we confront our imperfections and face a sometimes painful past, including the truth that some of these soldiers fought and died for a country that did not always see them as equal." - See more at:

Was anyone else watch the ceremony? BO WAS FALLING ASLEEP! He couldn't keep his eyes open! It was DISGUSTING!

Drugs, booze, lack of sleep...something was wrong.

A Vet should have smacked the boy upside the head!

Well, he’s got a lot of problems now, and he didn’t make _all_ of them himself...I actually give him a bit of credit for pushing these through, though. Flame away, everyone!

No pics...I was watching it live. I tried to give him a pass but he looked stoned. I’ll see if I can find a video on Fox.

This was a political move. Obama only cares about the military when he's looking for votes. These days his poll numbers are low; hence, the need to do something to make him look good.

I wonder how the recipients or their loved ones felt about being used as campaign props.

They were probably wondering about the back pay. Each Medal of Honor recipient receives 2000 a month. If this goes back to Vietnam. That is a nice chunk of change especially since it was not expected.

bama only cares about the military when he's looking for votes.

And what votes would that be? Certainly the Republicans don't deserve a single vote from Veterans that is for sure. That scoundrel Paul Ryan and company definitely don't deserve a thing from veterans.

When he was falling asleep, at least he wasn’t making stupid jokes for scripted laughter at a MOH ceremony (like he did for the first half hour). Such a great orator!! Soooo smart and presidential. Not.

Don’t you see what this is really about? It is nothing more than a political ploy. It paints the military as a racist organization that blatently discrimates against minorities. Years later Obama rides in on his white horse to save the day. These men deserved the Medal of Honor but didn’t get it because of their skin color. I’m not buying it. If I could see those files then maybe but they are under wraps and none of us will see them thanks to the most transparent administration in history. Nobody ever said war is fair. Not to take anything away from these veterans but were white records reviewed for errors? Is this not reverse discrimination? If not, why not? Just asking.

The standards for the MoH have changed from one era to the next and even during a single war. In WW2 the Army decided that because too many MoH’s has been awarded in previous wars that they would arbitrarily limit the number to (I believe it was) 1 per division for the Normandy invasion. A lot of deserving soldiers got screwdriver over in that one.
