UPDATE, 12:07 p.m. ET: Russian forces are reportedly pushing back the press at the scene:

Ukrainian troops said Tuesday that they were being attacked by Russian forces at a base in Crimea’s main city, Simferopol, the Interfax news agency reported, according to Reuters.

“One Ukrainian serviceman has been wounded in the neck and collarbone. Now we have barricaded ourselves on the second floor. The headquarters has been taken and the commander has been taken. They want us to put down our arms but we do not intend to surrender,” a military spokesperson reportedly said.

“We are being stormed.” Share: “We are being stormed. We have about 20 people here and about 10 to 15 others, including women,” an unidentified serviceman told Fifth Channel television, according to Reuters. “One of our officers was wounded during the attack, grazed in the neck and arm.”

This is a developing news story. Updates will be added.

All you have to do is put down any weapons and walk out. If you were stormed, you would have all been captured or dead.

FROM RT:

The Kryminform news agency, citing an unnamed local police source, reports shooting came from a house under construction opposite the center and targeted Crimean self-defense units as well the military center itself.

“Earlier today self-defense units were informed that a group of armed men had been discovered in a partially inhabited building,” a source from the ministry said. “As they were taking measures to check, self-defense units came under fire. One man was killed, one wounded,” the source explained, adding that shooting came “in two directions from one spot”.

The Kryminform source claimed another man from the military center was wounded.

RT’s producer contacted staff inside the military center, who confirmed that the shooting did take place and came from a nearby house under construction. At the same time, the man had no information on the casualties.

Meanwhile, multiple reports that a Ukrainian serviceman died in the incident are unconfirmed by our crew at the scene.

They have a right to defend themselves from Putin’s thugs.

These soldiers didn’t get the memo that Crimea is now Russian territory.

They are in Russia now and are lucky to be alive.

Putin’s network. You’re quoting from his personally owned network.

Put down weapons? What a noble idea. I have another one: how about raise them and shoot the enemy?

For those of you suggesting that what is going on in the Ukraine is somehow justified, would you have the same opinion if the Mexican army invaded Southern California to “protect Spanish speaking peoples”, then promptly conducted a referendum giving Americans in those areas a choice between joining Mexico or having a “special” autonomous relationship with the US? I suspect that there are Democrats who would be ok with that scenario but no conservative would support such nonsense. Just because Ukraine doesn’t have the military might to defend itself from Russian aggression does not make the use of Russian force acceptable. There are many things that the US and Europe could do to support the Ukraine that do not involve immediate military intervention. These silly “sanctions” against a handful of Russian government officials are a complete farce.

May lots of Russian soldiers, policemen, secret policemen, like Putin, be killed in Ukraine. Kill them anyway you can and avenge all the wrongs the Russians have inflicted on Ukraine in the centuries, all the millions starved to death by Stalin and his secret police that Putin worked for and is still a member of.

What if Cuba suddenly decided that the US base at Guantanamo Bay is no longer valid and they are going to take steps to reclaim it?

Does the US simply sit back and let it happen?

‘We Are Being Stormed’: Russian Forces Reportedly Attack Ukrainian Troops In Crimea, At Least One Reported Dead

I'm certainly not supporting what Russia is doing in Crimea but I'm also not buying the news reports that are coming out now.......

A military "storming" would certainly involve a hell of a lot more dead than just one.......

This is reminiscent of the attrocities that the U.S. was accused of when we went into Iraq.......

We only lease the base. It ends if we don’t pay, if we abandon it or both agree.
