Radar Shows Plane Deliberately Flew Toward Indian Ocean: Reports
NBC News ^ | March 14, 2014 | Alastair Jamieson

Military radar evidence suggests the missing Malaysia Airlines jetliner was deliberately flown west toward the Indian Ocean’s Andaman Islands, sources told Reuters on Friday as mounting evidence pointed to a criminal inquiry into Flight MH370.

Two sources told Reuters that an unidentified aircraft – believed by investigators to be the missing Boeing 777 - was following a route between navigational way-points, indicating it was being flown by someone with aviation training when it was last plotted on military radar off the country's northwest coast.

I don’t know about hangers, just the length of the runway so it does accommodate similar size aircraft.

The Chinese would not have kept quiet if India shot down a plane carrying mostly their nationals, they would be massing on the border

I just noticed a plane flying overhead! Oh but I am on the flight path to the airport. Never mind.

If the 777 was taken over and flown to some third world hell hole like Iran, wouldn’t it look out of place if Malaysian Airlines didn’t serve that country or airport? If that’s the case, it would have stood out like a sore thumb. Certainly someone would have noticed. And still someone that may be willing to admit to having seen it. This is like the Twilight Zone episode “The Arrival” in reverse.

No, I don’t agree that the target was the plane. It’s not hard to get your hands on a plane by conventional means - this attracts way too much attention.

If something big was intended for this aircraft, it would have been done at the time. Now, everyone on earth is looking for a 777, it has “Kick Me” written all over it.

This is either a diversion, or it was someone/something on that plane. Not the plane itself. It’s radioactive, toxic.

It’s not too secret, then. A dedicated hijacker-terrorist could look it up if he wanted. If they can’t shut it off, though, the ac has most likely crashed.

Or it crashed in the ocean and people are making up stuff. There is a lot of wiggle room in these statements.

‘Deliberately’.

Journalists. If you can’t do, teach. If you can’t teach, be a journalist.

Writing stuff like this is either a)intentional (propaganda), or b)unintentional (ignorant).

Because its IMPOSSIBLE that they plane’s nav system could have either been hacked, or that the plane’s telemetry was spoofed to make the pilots think there were somewhere when they were actually somewhere-else.

Based on what I’ve SEEN HACKERS DO IN PERSON with ACARS, FMS, etc., you can EASILY fool a heavy commercial airliner over water that they are on course, but in all actuality hundreds, even thousands of miles off. You can spend less than $500 dollars and have everything you need to hack a commercial heavy.

“Funny, I don’t remember this part of the Indian Ocean being so wide? We got a headwind or something?”

‘Deliberately’ implies the pilots steered the plane intentionally off the flight plan. If they have evidence of that, it should be in the article.

I love how the story came out about the pilots bringing girls into the flight deck. You had to dig to find out it was two years ago.

Where did you suppose it crashed in the Ocean...

Gulf of Thailand? It’s one of the most populated regions in the planet with very high volumes of shipping and air traffic, and 20 country’s navies can’t find a trace of it?

Indian Ocean? Turned off civilian coms, took a deliberate unscheduled turn, passed through 4 IFR waypoints... and then just routinely crashed nbd?

Notice that the sources are anonymous and they use the word “suggests”.

The entire Gulf of Thailand is less than 250 feet deep...

My take on the possibilities...

1. Pilot suicide

2. Hijacking (See answer 3 below)

3. Terrorism

4. Diversion (See answer 3 above)

5. Someone/something on that plane is very important to someone.

I agree, the plane is of no value.

OK, fine.

But where is it? Ocean covers about 75% of the earth’s surface, be a bit more specific. And suggest how it happened.

I agree that my theories aren’t great, but I haven’t heard any that are even good? You have any ideas? Offer something constructive...

Thank you for the succinct explanation. It has been driving me crazy, reading the various articles that just chum the waters with their inadequate explanations and unsourced quote mining for maximum effect.

Journalism is killing itself with unprofessional and incompetent writing.

Yes, as I said in another thread, it needs to be something “spectacular”

How about the plane crashed? There’s a possibility.

Until someone comes on the record or reports something as fact instead of “reports” or “suggests” or “led to believe”, I’m not ruling out the obvious answer.

Since MAL did not subscribe to AHM data and since non of the 777 experts I have heard on TV know about the AHM system why do you think any of the MAL pilots knew about it?

I think you'll agree that 777 experts not knowing about AHM and not talking about it on TV are two different things.

You are correct. Failure to receive the last ACARS report probably means that the plane landed without the gear being dropped.

_____________________________________________

Either the ACARS was disabled or landing without gear or being taken down by military means by a nation that doesn’t want to admit to it. Not just international tensions but also the impact on air travel in general. For passengers, contemplating hijackers was bad enough - but the “solution” (shooting a passenger plane down) is unpleasant as well.

Don’t be so condescending. Yes, we all understand that this is speculation. And no, I’m not ruling out “crashed”. But it begs lots of questions, starting with: “Crashed where?”

If on-course, then why did it crash, and why can’t they find it? etc.

If off-course, then why was it off course? etc.

If the topic doesn’t interest you then just move on...
