UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- The head of the organization that monitors the nuclear test ban treaty said Monday he has asked its experts to see if they detected an explosion at high altitude of the missing Malaysian Airlines plane.

Lassina Zerbo, executive director of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization told a news conference that the CTBTO uses "infrasound" - or infrasonic sensors - to monitor the earth mainly for atmospheric nuclear explosions....

Very few terrorist groups actually claim credit for their actions.

It disappeared from radar - suddenly - all planes now days constantly broadcast thousands of bits of information automatically to the company and the manufacturer. All comm’s stopped suddenly. Then too, why no floating seat cushions or debris of any sort. There were no storms in the area either. It was there on the radar then it wasn’t. Radar would have tracked floating debris coming down. This is a real whodunnit.

I posted 2 days ago that I thought the 2 oil slicks, but no debris field, showed that the terrorists made the pilot go dark, and dump fuel so they could fly low under radar, and land at a captive, prearranged airfield with waiting islamist pirates. Some INTELSAT knows what happened... hard to do anything these days with so many electronic eyes/ears in the sky.

It disappeared about a minute before reaching Vietnamese airspace.

I think this is important.

But ...

might just be coincidence.

How about all those empty cities in China? Might one have a long enough runway? They certainly have enough places there to hide 239 people and the plane.

“Or all three.”

Or, a fourth; I’m guessing that whatever happened the pilots or a pilots was involved. One pilot killed the other or perhaps both pilots nosed the plane over and flew it into the sea. However, I doubt this scenario because there’s no debris to be found. Or, one or both pilots switched off all sending/tracking systems and flew the plane at low altitude to a remote airfield where it is being hidden to be used in a terrorist attack in the future. Passengers have been executed. I don’t buy the mid-air explosion theory as there would have been debris on the water. Impossible to ionize a complete 777 so that there are absolutely no pieces left to be found. Anyway, at the moment, my theories are as good as anyone else’s :)

Notice the news tonight and the expanded area of search — to the West — 100 nmi. That turn that some said it looked like the pilot was making must have been to the left.

And they could only go so far without refueling.

Or maybe it is being refueled in air. Why not?

There are some pretty incredible sensor nets out there. Within 20 minutes of the Russian sub Kursk blowing up in the Baltic some of our seismic guys had pinpointed the event.

On the other hand, a plane at 35K feet that can be taken out by a 1/2 pound of Semtex won’t couple into the water/ground.

Now they have to come up with a story that doesn’t mention a forbidden topic.

And that's where I come in.

If the Bermuda Triangle is due to gases released from the sea floor then the Washington Triangle is due to gases released from the white hut & congress.

one or both pilots switched off all sending/tracking systems

I believe there have been firmware updates to nav/com systems that cause some data to be transmitted even when the gear is switched off. Actually, like cellphones, some of the gear has no actual off setting...the processors just go into sleep mode but still are on....and watching for events. Even physically disconnecting the power leads to some gear won't shut them down as there are internal batteries that keep the processors alive for a time.

Locator beacons are notoriously unreliable; studies show they fail between 30-70% of the time during real emergencies. In some crashes, the transmitter unit tears away from its mount, taking the antenna with it. There is better technology for tracking downed aircraft, but it is not without cost. ELTs are a cheaper, but less reliable alternative.

Starting to wonder if the plane was hijacked. I would have thought if it was blown to pieces it would have left some debris.

I know, the ocean is large, but still, how far off track could the plane have gotten
