Russia’s information warriors are on the march – we must respond

A robust campaign to tell the truth about Crimea is needed to counter Moscow’s lies

'Russian television news is reporting…” Nowadays, when I hear those words pronounced on the BBC or ITN, I can’t help but wince. Over the past 10 days, Russian television news has reported, among other things, that 675,000 Ukrainian refugees have flooded over the Russian border; that extremists and neo-Nazi militants have illegally taken over the Ukrainian government in Kiev; and that Crimean “self-defence forces” or “pro-Russian forces” have spontaneously gathered in front of the Crimean parliament in order to defend it from those same Nazis.

Each of these statements is a lie: there are no refugees flooding into Russia. The queues of cars that appeared on broadcasts were found to be taken at a Polish border point, which thousands cross in any case every day. Nor have extremists and neo-Nazis taken over in Kiev: the elected parliament has now formed the government in Ukraine, following the president’s extraordinary decision to discard a negotiated agreement and flee the country.

Let’s be clear about the “self-defence forces” in Crimea – sometimes called “pro-Russian forces”: they are Russian troops. They are driving vehicles with Russian plates. Their machine guns are definitely not for sale at local shops. They have not arrived in Crimea to defend the local Russians from attack because local Russians were not under attack. They are there to create hysteria, to undermine the government in Kiev, and to persuade outsiders that the accelerating Russian occupation of Crimea is legitimate – and perhaps that the coming occupation of eastern Ukraine, or other parts of Ukraine, is legitimate too.

As if Washington D.C., the District of Criminals, a.k.a. Mordor on the Potomac, the sodomites in Brussels or their Corporate Media mouthpieces have any more credibility than Moscow.

I am so sick of propaganda on both sides.

The best example are Russia Today and the BBC’s YouTube channels. On the former are videos such as: ‘Neo-Nazis March Against Yushchenko’ and ‘Rioters Attack Police’. The latter has: ‘Protester Peacefully Plays Piano’, ‘Protesters Offer Riot Police Cupcakes’ and ‘Snipers Targets Peaceful Demonstrators’.

The liberals are upset that Russia’s propaganda is more effective than their propaganda.

The truth is the west and Russia battled for control of Ukraine. Russia outfoxed the West. The US is also pissed because the MSM can’t cover up Obama’s incompetence on this one.

Why do you keep trying to change the subject, Count?

Actually, the Russian propaganda machine runs circles around ours. Ours are taking notes (ref. another post above).

True. And it seems each side prefers their home grown propaganda to the other guys propaganda.

Our propaganda refuses to admit this “revolution” was anything other than a western funded takedown of an elected government ( like our backing of various Arab Spring stuff ). Its just, like our inability to translate the word “RESET” into Russian, an epic failure. We backed a clown who couldn’t rule and who was out maneuvered by a perfectly predictable outcome.

So the non elected militantly established Ukraine government is supposedly legitimate and the militant response to militant uprising is supposedly an illegitimate response to an “elected government”

Whats particularly amusing to me is hearing people bang on about how bad Russia is for doing precisely what the US has done in many situations in our own hemisphere and in the eastern one too.

Satellite images would show BS and the Ukraine needs to blow a pipeline to send a message to Russia.
That oil is blood to Russia, so bleed Russia out.

Your laughable moral equivalency is unworthy of response except for this - some Putin porn to keep your loins quivering.

"...anti-American supporters among us..."

I heard there was once a 'land of the free' called America where the Obama socialist dictatorship now stands.

That is an excellent example of this mindless support for strengthening Russia, it was irrelevant to the larger concerns that will be occupying us 10 and 20 years from now and face a Russian empire and China.....again.

This president we hired to rule over us is as 'anti-American' as Putin.
