It's recently been my understanding that with biometric passports (mine’s biometric) it's tough to get away with passport fraud.

Passports clearly are racist. And biometric passports? Don't get me started. /sarcasm

“Somebody” wants China to have a civil war in their muslim provinces so they are impeded in the East Asia seas.

It’s painfully obvious.

Agreed. Muslims just knifed and killed a bunch of Chinese in a mall last week. The plane was blown up by Islamic terrorists.

“Authorities probing possible foul play after ‘missing’ passport claim”
The Malay Mail Online – 5 hours ago

SNIPPET: “SEPANG, March 8 — The case of the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370 aircraft took on a sinister twist today after reports emerged that two foreigners — one Italian and one Austrian — listed on the flight manifest never boarded the plane.

According to several foreign news reports, Italian Luigi Maraldi and Austrian Christian Kozel, both had their passports stolen some time ago.”

SNIPPET: “According to the UK-based The Telegraph, the 37-year-old Maraldi told his parents he was in Thailand and never boarded the flight, after his name turned up on the manifest.

In a report on The Guardian, Austria’s foreign ministry spokesman Martin Weiss was quoted as telling media that the Austrian citizen listed on the manifest is safe in his home country and had his passport stolen some years ago in Thailand.”

“Terror fears over missing 777 grow: Identities of ANOTHER two passengers probed as suspicion falls on four who booked with Chinese airline, amid report of flight’s last ‘mumbling’ transmission”

By RICHARD SHEARS and LIZZIE PARRY
PUBLISHED: 00:11 EST, 9 March 2014 | UPDATED: 02:25 EST, 9 March 2014

SNIPPET: “Missing American: The sole adult passenger traveling aboard the missing Malaysia Airlines flight on a U.S. passport has been identified as IBM executive Philip Wood, 51, who worked in Kuala Lumpur”

SNIPPET: “And dramatically, a second pilot who was in the skies over the South China Sea when the 777 vanished has spoken about hearing ‘mumbling’ at the other end of communications with the plane.

The captain, who asked to remain anonymous, told Malaysian media outlets he was asked to get in contact with the pilot flying the missing plane on an emergency frequency and establish their position.

He said he believes he spoke to the co-pilot, but that there were ‘interference’ and ‘mumbling’ before they lost the connection.”

SNIPPET: “Two people aboard the aircraft were using passports reported stolen in Thailand - one registered to an Italian and the other an Austrian.

Malaysian security officers say they are currently verifying the identities of the two new people in question with the relevant embassies, but refused to elaborate further.

The passengers being checked had all bought their tickets through China Southern Airlines.”

SNIPPET: “Two other American travelers have been named as toddlers Leo Meng, 2, and Nicole Meng, 4.”

SNIPPET: “Causing the most suspicion are the two confirmed stolen passports and the new people being investigated.”

“Malaysia launches terror probe over vanished jet”

AFP News
By Julia Zappei

SNIPPET: “Malaysia on Sunday launched a terror probe into the disappearance of a passenger jet carrying 239 people and the United States sent the FBI to investigate, as anguished relatives begged for news of their loved ones.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 vanished from radar early Saturday somewhere at sea between Malaysia’s east coast and southern Vietnam. Search teams were still hunting for the plane, and the airline said it was “fearing the worst”.

Concern over a possible security breach grew as Malaysia’s government said it was investigating four people who were on the Boeing 777 plane.”

Monday, March 10, 10:00 AM MYT +0800 Malaysia Airlines MH370 Flight Incident - 9th Media Statement

It has been more than 48 hours since we lost contact with our flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Despite not being able to establish any positive findings on the whereabouts of the aircraft, Malaysia Airlines has been actively cooperating with the search and rescue authorities coordinated by the Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia (DCA).

DCA has confirmed that search and rescue teams from Australia, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines and the United States of America have come forward to assist. We are grateful for these efforts.

Malaysia Airlines’ primary focus at this point in time is to care for the families. This means providing them with timely information, travel facilities, accommodation, meals, medical and emotional support. The costs for these are all borne by Malaysia Airlines.

Initial financial assistance has been given out to all families over and above their basic needs.

At least one caregiver is assigned to each family. These caregivers are well-trained staff and volunteers from Malaysia and other organizations.

As of now, there are more than 150 “Go Team” members consisting of senior management and caregivers at Beijing to attend to these families. In Kuala Lumpur, a different group of caregivers are attending to the families’ needs.
Families from other nations apart from China have been arriving at Kuala Lumpur since early yesterday. More are expected to arrive today.

Malaysia Airlines is working closely with the government of China to expedite the issuance of passports for the families as well as with the immigration of Malaysia for their visas into Malaysia.

When the aircraft is located, a Response Coordination Centre (RCC) will be activated within the vicinity to support the needs of the families. This has been communicated specifically to the families.

The airline continues to work with the authorities and we appreciate the help we are receiving from all parties and agencies during this critical and difficult time especially the members of the media.

Malaysia Airlines reiterates that it will continue to be transparent in communicating with the general public via the media in all matters affecting MH370.

Malaysia Airlines is similarly anxious and we appreciate the patience, support and prayers from everyone.

THE MALAYSIAN INSIDER

“Paper reveals Iranian-link in ticket purchase for passengers with stolen passports”

The Malaysian Insider

SNIPPET: “The Financial Times exclusively reported that a Thai travel agent who booked the tickets for the men said she had been asked to make the travel arrangements by an Iranian contact.

Travel agent Benjaporn Krutnait, booked the tickets through a business contact whom she only knew as “Mr Ali”. She said that his first request to book cheap tickets to Europe for the two men was made on March 1.”

SNIPPET: “Benjaporn initially reserved one of the men on a Qatar Airways flight and the other on Etihad. But the tickets expired when Benjaporn did not hear back from Ali.”

SNIPPET: “Benjaporn made the bookings through a China Southern Airlines office in Bangkok.

The two passengers were supposed to fly from Beijing to Amsterdam on Saturday. The passenger travelling as “Luigi Maraldi” was to fly on to Copenhagen and “Christian Kozel” to Frankfurt.”

SNIPPET: “The one-way tickets under those names were issued by a travel agency in Pattaya, eastern Thailand. – March 10, 2014.”

by Raf Sanchez By Raf Sanchez, Washington, Harriet Alexander, Steve Wilson, Malcolm Moore in Beijing

SNIPPET: “18.30 The Financial Times has some interesting detail about the tickets used by the two men travelling on stolen passports. Apparently, the tickets were bought from the Grand Horizon travel agency in Thailand and purchased by an Iranian man known to the agency only as “Mr Ali”.

He’s apparently a regular middleman for flight bookings and it’s not clear that he even knew the men were travelling illegally. According to Benjaporn Krutnait, the agency owner, he didn’t specify which flights to put the men on and asked only for the cheapest flights to Europe (they were booked to fly from Beijing on to Amsterdam). The tickets were paid for in cash by an associate of Mr Ali’s.

The FT was unable to reach Mr Ali on a Tehran mobile number.”

SNIPPET: “11.19 Our correspondent in Shanghai, Tom Phillips, has been following the story for us.

He points out that police in Thailand have “removed documentation” from two travel agencies in Pattaya, “which are believed to be involved in the purchase of two tickets using stolen passports.”

The agencies were named as Grand Horizon Travel Agency and Six Stars Travel.”

SNIPPET: “A senior Thai police official told AFP that authorities were probing a passport racket on the resort island of Phuket, where Maraldi’s passport was stolen.

“A police team combined with local police and immigration are working to track down a passport ring,” southern police commander Panya Mamen said.

A district official in Phuket said that Maraldi had presented himself to police there on Sunday.

“An Italian tourist, Luigi Maraldi, has met southern police commander today in Phuket to say he was not on the plane and his passport had been stolen since last year,” district police lieutenant colonel Akanit Danpitaksart told AFP.

“Iranian asylum-seeker used stolen passport on Malaysia Airlines flight, police say”

Published March 11, 2014
FoxNews.com

SNIPPET: “Police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said Tuesday that the man, whom the BBC identified as 19-year-old Pouria Nour Mohammad Mehrdad, was not believed to be a member of a terrorist group. Bakar says Mehrdad was believed to be planning to reach Frankfurt, Germany, and added that that the young man’s mother was waiting for him and had been in contact with the police. Bakar said she contacted Malaysian authorities to inform them of her concern when her son didn’t get in touch with her.

The second passenger using a stolen passport has not been identified.

However, late Monday, the BBC’s Persian service reported that both men who bought the stolen passports were Iranians who planned to use them to migrate to Europe. The report cited a friend of both men who hosted them at his home in Kuala Lumpur as they prepared to travel to Beijing, the final destination of the flight.”

“Mystery fake-passport holders on flight MH370 were Iranian”

By Arron Merat
10:57PM GMT 10 Mar 2014

SNIPPET: “The two men travelling on stolen passports on the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 that mysteriously disappeared on Saturday have been identified as Iranian nationals.

A BBC Persian report quotes an Iranian friend of one of the men, who said he hosted the pair in Kuala Lumpur after they arrived from Tehran in the days preceding their flight to Beijing.

The friend, who knew one of the men from his school days in Iran, said the men had bought the fake passports because they wanted to migrate to Europe.”

SNIPPET: “One of the Iranian nationals’ intended final destination was Frankfurt, where his mother lives, while the other wanted to travel to Denmark.

The same source that spoke to BBC Persian also emailed CNN with a photograph of him posing with his two friends in the days before they embarked on their fateful trip.”
