When People Give Up Looking for Work, What Do They Do?
Wall Street Journal ^ | 03/07/2014 | Sara Murray

Posted on 03/07/2014 10:46:31 AM PST by SeekAndFind

The job market may have reached a turning point in February when for the first time in nearly four years more of the unemployed found jobs than dropped out of the labor force.

Last month 10.5 million people were unemployed, including 3.8 million who have been out of work for six months or more. But those numbers only count the people who are out of work and still looking for jobs.

Even though February saw more people returning to the labor force, the percent of the population working or looking for work remains near a 30-year low due to millions of dropouts during the recession.

The real unemployment rate has been stuck at 11.5% for many months now.

A lot of them did what I did. They retired early. All of the jobs that Obama claims to have created stem from retirees who would otherwise still be working.

TRUE Story.....a local guy called a radio station here and told this story.....

He was shopping at the local WINCO and saw these obviously homeless guys buying cases and cases of water.....and they used EBT cards. He checked out after them...but, when he went outside, he saw them at the can/bottle recycling center attached to the store....yep...emptying the bottles of water and getting the 5 cents for each bottle. Evidently he then followed them, as they left, and they headed up the street to a local bar....

My 18 year old son has been working since he was 15. There are plenty of jobs.

That “dirty jobs” guy has a website devoted to getting training and jobs for people. It’s quite amazing.

Great sad story
Just think what whoever thought of that scam could do if he turned his efforts to real work.

(personally) been looking since last May, countless applications, numerous interviews, .....nothing...anyone in Northern NJ looking for a driver? (western morris eastern Warren)...parts, point to point, car dealerships?....seems if your over a certain age...you screwed
Employers have the advantage of picking out of say 100...two or three who they deem perfect.
BUT IN ANY CASE YOU MUST KEEP LOOKING.....

I’m a retired machinist. I’ve seen some of these adds They are looking for “Purple Squirrels”.
They want you to be a machinist (manual and CNC), electrician,(including PLC’s diagnostics), fitter, welder, and be available for all three shifts. Then they offer $18.00 an hour.

That’s easy to answer. Simply go to your local DFS office and notice the line of people getting food stamps.

During my off and off tech contracting period of a couple years, I burned a small 401k and my piddly little state retirement savings. I was broke, ripped off on my final pay by a company I regretted ever dealing with, and had no prospects at the time.

My son is a cashier in a grocery store. He was curious why people buy so much heat-&-eat food and expensive meat with an EBT.
Answer: Easy to convert to cash. You can sell those microwave meals to anyone. Meat can be repackaged, frozen and delivered to your “customers” every month.

Move to red states. I know it’s easier said than done, but several of my friends have had luck in Arizona. That being said, there is real age discrimination out there. My thoughts and prayers go out to my brotheres and sisters over 50.

Bingo. I know a guy who is not all that old, and has some marketable construction skills. He weaseled his way onto disability and food stamps. Sent the wife off to wait tables under the counter. He spends his days sitting around drinking beer and watching porn.
