Three of the four Republicans competing in the gubernatorial primary say they believe all Illinois residents have the right to own assault weapons.

Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford of Chenoa, state Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington and venture capitalist Bruce Rauner of Winnetka said Thursday night that they believe it’s a right.

Rutherford offered the caveat that an owner must be: “Background checked and trained,” before obtaining an assault weapon. He was the first to respond to the question posed at an ABC7/Univision televised debate put on with the League of Women Voters.

Anybody here own any “assault” weapons? I don’t. We allow these people to dictate language and it’s a huge mistake.

That's probably not what some Illinois Nitwits mean, but it's certainly what I would mean. NFA '34, GCA '68 and FOPA '86 are ALL blatant violations of the US Constitution.

I know several people that own “assault-prevention” weapons.

Gosh.

At age 10, I had a 10 shot semi-automatic rifle. Along wih a few million other kids all those decades ago.

Guess we didn’t know we needed a law to explicitly allow us to do that.

Back then, most people woulda thought that was hilarious.

Assault is behavior, not a type of hardware.

Tell me Dan, train by who and how much will it cost. Since your definition of an assault weapon is a semi auto, does that mean I can’t own my Ruger MarkI (it kinda looks like a scary military weopan known as Luger) if I don’t go to some idiotic government approved training!!!!!!!!! I just had to pay $150.00 to listen to a fella read( that’s right read) the new concealed carry law to me. I knew more than the instructer about the law. Total Bullspit waste of time and money just so I can exercise my 2nd Amendment right. Quit pandering to the idiots that won’t vote for you anyway Dan.

I’m astonished and offended that it’s only three. It should be ALL of them.

Assault is behavior, not a type of hardware.

Exactly the intent. To frame every owner as a violent assailant. Just like calling anyone opposing the presidents policies as a racist.

And to think, since 1962, the anti-gunners have made people believe they ONLY wanted to register or ban handguns.

In 1971, they pushed the SCOTUS Miller decision as “proof” handguns were bad but rifles were protected. Even many TV shows like ALL IN THE FAMILY pushed the Miller decision as proof of this.

In 1981, actress Lee Grant stated on GMA that the NRA was a rifle organization! “They should give up their handguns and they can KEEP their rifles!”

Now the push is on to ban anything they can. Handguns, rifles, shotguns. They are after all of them.

Democrats in NJ have proposed a new law to ban all tube fed over 10 shot rifles. That includes rifles like the Remington nylon 66 and the old Winchester 74.

Like I’ve said, they are after ALL rifles, not just rifles that look “bad”.

The bigger question remains, Is Baron Carhartt lying through his teeth??? His adds seem to be saying what every conservative wants to hear but his actions in the past are anything but.

Does anybody ask these ass-clowns what the phrase ‘shall not be infringed’ means ‘to them’?

Can they elaborate on where the term ‘assault XYZ’ correlates to ‘to keep and bare arms’

I’d LOVE to hear ALL those-running-for-ANY-public-seat their logic on Rights vs. privileges (IE: requiring license)

Here in Kalifornia the only difference between some perfectly legal rifles and a so-called "assault weapon" is the attachment of a pistol grip; or a flash suppressor; or a folding stock.

Is it now being suggested that people need to have training in how to use a pistol grip? How to adjust the length of a folding stock? How to not have one's night vision affected by using a flash suppressor? Will this be a four day course of instruction costing hundreds of dollars?

Even Republicans have become a joke when it comes to infringements of the right to keep and bear arms.
