Two Detroiters targeted by attackers shot and killed those attackers in separate incidents Saturday.
It was shortly after midnight when two men approached a woman in the driveway of her home on Abbington Street on Detroit's west side, and attempted to carjack her.
The woman, who has a permit to carry, pulled out a gun and fired several shots at the men. One of her would-be carjackers was killed.
Neighbor Wala Alshibil said incidents like this make him think about having a gun for protection.
"I'm not a big fan of guns but to protect yourself, if you have to get one, get one," Alshibil said.
Varnita Owagbemi, who also lives in the neighborhood, agrees.

This is the problem. You shouldn't need a license to protect yourself. Natural Law predates this nation.

Yup. Any man too dangerous to own a gun is a man too dangerous to walk the street.
If you lock up dangerous people and keep them locked up, you won’t have to collect the names of law abiding citizens through gun registration.
It sounds like a third world Dodge City!
Better a 3rd world Dodge city than a modern NY where you’ll be arrested and charged for defending yourself.
That’s 5 defensive shootings in a week that I know of in Detroit.
The Wild West was never as violent as your average modern city
Cities have always been violent places. Just look at the bible.
One of my favorite and probably false Ty Cobb stories is about him beating a man to death in the street after the guy tried to rob him.

That's actually a true story. Cobb admitted it to his biographer in the last couple years of his life.
