BERLIN — In a series of home raids, Germany has arrested three men — aged 88, 92 and 94 — suspected of being former SS guards at the Auschwitz death camp.
The three elderly men underwent medical tests and then faced a judge who confirmed their fitness to be detained in a prison hospital, prosecutors said in a statement Thursday.
The men were suspected of having served as Auschwitz SS guards from 1942 to 1944 and of having participated in murders at the Nazis’ extermination camp in occupied Poland, where more than 1 million people were killed in the Second World War.
The three men lived in the south-western state of Baden-Württemberg, said prosecutors in the city of Stuttgart.

Vladimir will need guards when he reopens the Gulags if the anti-Putin sentiment really starts to take hold. He sees the old gulag guards as ready reserves. Putin having a hissy fit will make uncle Joes purge look merely unpleasant.

Don’t suppose a trial to determine innocence or guilt is in order. Why act like the Nazis?
I’m just curious as to where they are going to get witnesses to give testimony?
You don’t think there’s going to be a difference in the thinking of the old folks already in prison (like the ones you knew) and the ones who were not incarcerated?

The chilling thing for my generation- or a least those who really delved into the war afterward is the record. Not the place to go into it here, but the actual boasts by some of my countrymen who were in authority, are those of pride in deceit.
To carry on a war against civilized people needed propaganda. I will merely quote two book titles.
(1)Bodyguard of Lies.
(2)Masters of Deceit.
Of course Hitler and his ilk were unmitigated swines. Anyway, enough of a rant from me.

Agree people need to remember Stalin’s reign of terror. Today politically there are people urging Socialism, bragging about their Communist parents, and recommending seizing privately owned public utilities.
Yet for some reason, Austria gets a pass. They are the ones who spawned Nazism, and some of the most fervent anti-semites in the Party were Austrian.

That they lived this long after committing their crimes is a blot of shame on the world.
They’ve lived to a ripe old age, something their victims never had a chance to do.
How come old gulag guards are never arrested?
I was wondering the same thing. As bad as the Germans were, I believe the Soviets were even worse, but the Germans get all the bad press. Could it be that the many communists in America, and other countries, give them cover? I do not know, but maybe the rats need the gulag guards expertise in building American gulags, so they protect them. Who knows?
The Communists are given a free pass because they aren't "bigots." "Bigotry" is now the greatest crime in the world, greater even than mass murder. The Communists killed many more hundreds of millions than the Nazis did, but at least they weren't "bigots" so it wasn't that bad. Meanwhile if the Nazis hadn't been "bigots" they could have been mass murderers, war mongers, and diplomatic liars and cheats and it wouldn't have been quite as bad. "Bigotry" is now the be-all and end-all of all evils, and the mass murder of "bigots" would probably be considered a good thing even by the more moderate "liberals" of our own day.
Why else would there be "hate crime" laws differentiating between murders?
