FOOD PRICES SKYROCKETING SINCE 2011 WHILE WAGES STAGNANT
Breitbart ^ | 2/17/14 | William Bigelow

Posted on 02/19/2014 6:02:47 AM PST by BlatherNaut

CBS News reports that the combination of food prices being inflated and the stagnation of wages is threatening the middle class. The report noted that staples such as chicken, ground beef, and bacon have skyrocketed in price since 2011: the price of chicken is 18.4% more than it was; ground beef is up 16.8%; and bacon saw a huge increase of 22.8% in price. These price hikes came despite the federal government’s sunny assertion that prices in general have only increased 6.4% in that period. Meanwhile, median income has only risen 1% each year, while the cost of college tuition has climbed 6% to 8% every year for at least forty years. ConvergEx market strategist Nick Colas commented, "Food inflation is far greater than the government thinks it is. The disconnect is severe, because it's the economists that make policy but it's the people who have to live with the outcome of that policy and that disconnect is growing to the point where I think it has to break soon.”

My wife shops at Walmart. A 2lb roast beef was about $4.50 several years ago. Yesterday she told me it’s now $18.00! That’s a problem.

Only if you consider a dead animal food.

I don’t. It’s a dead animal.

/And don’t feed me that “Bambi” crap. I grew up hunting in rural North Carolina.

Humans are ominvores and eating meat is one of the things that helped us develop big brains to dominate the planet.

Remove welfare and food stamps back to the 1929 level and recalculate that and see what you get.

You ask and you shall receive. Food expenditures as a percentage of money income excl gov't assistance: 1929: 19.3% and 2012 11.4%.

I consider animals live or dead as potential food.

Bambi is a generic term for deer.

Don’t like it, too bad.

Get over your “ I’m morally superior because I don’t eat meat” self.

This is the direct result of food stamps. When you insert special food dollars into the economy, and people don’t have to get jobs to get these food dollars, food inflation results, and since there is no corresponding demand in jobs, flat wages result.

Calm it down, Cletus, no one’s threatening your manhood here.

I don’t give a damn about what you eat, nor how you get it.

Any claims of “moral superiority” on my part only exist in your imagination.

“It cost a lot of money to ship food products to China and back to be processed for the American dinner table”

With the INTENTIONAL war on farmers in California, allowing millions of acre feet of water held in reservoirs to be released into the ocean to save a non-native bait fish, coupled with drought, there will be very little to ship to processors in China, or our nation’s grocery stores for that matter.

When something gets subsidized, the price goes up.

__________________________________________________________

When something is subsidized you, the taxpayer pays for it twice. Once when you buy it for yourself and once when you buy it for the food stamp recipients. Increase the demand and the price goes up again so perhaps you really pay for it three times.

When poor people survived on charity nobody begrudged giving to people in need and the needy were grateful to receive a gift. Now there is no gratitude involved, getting stuff for free is a right. Taking from one and giving it to someone undeserving, someone who didn’t earn it is wrong. It is slavery. What people don’t mention is that Communism and Socialism is simply Slavery spelled differently. Instead of the lowest being the slaves it is those who can produce the most being enslaved by those who provide nothing to society. These “ism’s” are an upside down way of life.

When we did have the evil of legal slavery in this country we at least called it what it was. When we did have legal slavery the slaves got something for their efforts. In these isms we now have the worker gets no benefits for what they supply to the people who get what they earn. At least legal slaves got housing, clothing and food for their efforts. When our taxes support others we get no benefits from that transfer of payments to others, in that way it is worse than slavery.

Upside down or not it is a way to provide “reparations” to the several generations later descendants, those people who are fortunate enough to live here now, descended from those who were slaves. I cannot understand why the MSM supports this crazy stuff. People who could be living in Africa but are fortunate enough to live here but complain, and we let the complaints slide. When ever I hear the term African American I want to scream, when did you live in Africa?

Slavery will not continue to work. The enslaved will eventually find a way to either be on the receiving end or get out of the oppression. Violence will likely be the only way out.

It is truly sad that our founding fathers didn’t understand that there would be leaders who would not be Christian who would usurp their restrictions and Constitution and become rulers instead of representatives.

A lot of people didn’t like Truman because he was (for his time) a strong president. I thought he was a strong man. A lot of people loved Ike because he was always kind but he warned us again and again about the evils of big government. I thought Ike was the greatest thing that ever happened to our country when I was a kid, he would be rolling in his grave to see what is happening now. He was very perceptive and understood the evil men who are now in our midst. Ann Rand understood it. What these people warned us of seemed impossible when they warned us, but sadly, it is here.

As they say, I didn’t climb to the top of the food chain so I could eat carrots.

Ever notice how “cults” will cut off meat protein from new recruits diets?

Makes people easier to control.

Just like you said. Meat protein increases brain power.

You don’t need brain power to “outsmart” and “sneak up” on a carrot.

Immediately go to name calling.

No, you don’t consider yourself morally superior because you don’t eat meat, but people that do eat meat you have what you consider a derogatory name for them.

Only someone named “Cletus” would eat meat right?

They say that about fuel prices, too. Neither food nor fuel are included in the CPI. CPI and Unemployment are the two most cooked numbers out of DeeCee.

And just yesterday the emperor issued a decree mandating higher fuel efficiency standards for heavy trucks. (you know, the ones that bring food to the stores)

A requirement than can be almost instantly met by half-loading the rigs. Price per item shipped will necessarily skyrocket. I'm starting to detect a pattern here....

YOU hijacked the thread.

That means you are an open target.

I wanted to discuss Trader Joe’s, but a loon emerged from the woodwork.

Until, in a few months, we’ll hear how they feel they need to raise the food stamps allocations and provide more money for the school breakfasts/lunches/dinners programs, due to the rising cost of food. Or some back-door deal to subsidize the costs of meats before market.

Calling IMR 4350 “Cletus” says a lot more about you than it does about him(?). Good work exposing yourself as a food snob. I don’t think anybody else could have done that as efficiently as you just did.

Here you are, with one foot hanging out of your mouth...and you managed to find a way to get the other one in there too!

Good work!
