Politico, 2/18/14: Savage dominates Hannity in key markets
POLITICO ^

Posted on 02/18/2014 3:22:39 PM PST by scott55

ean Hannity has long been right-wing radio's dominant silver medalist, second only to the untouchable Rush Limbaugh. So when Michael Savage, his new competitor in afternoon drivetime, started throwing punches in the hopes of ginning up a public feud, Hannity demurred.

But now the first month's numbers are in, and in at least five of nation's largest markets, Savage is not only beating Hannity -- he's trouncing him.

People yelling at each other is not quality listening. It's like being in a dysfunctional home.

Some talk radio programs are bad about that. Some FoxNews programs are atrocious with that.

Several years ago, Cavuto allowed guests in 4 windows to argue and yell at each other. That went on for 7 minutes -- until a hard break. It was a complete waste of listeners/viewers time because we were unable to hear anything but noise.

Some of the other FoxNews hosts also let their discussions get out of hand with screaming and talking over each other when they have 2 or 3 strongly opposing commentators. The Saturday morning bunch are the worst.

” when the news came out that he made the maximum allowable contribution to Jerry Brown’s campaign for attorney general, his”

Please stop recycling that old story. Yeah , it’s true (savage says so, so it’s not ‘news’).

Do you know why savage did it? Because he heard a speech JB did and savage thought brown was becoming less liberal, so he donated money to encourage that?

Have you never tried to encourage someone to do the right thing, but the person just continued in their foolishness?

I have.

So whose fault is that? Savage never gave to brown after that, and he criticizes him to this day.

I see no fault for savage in this regard.

I can’t take Savage in very big doses...really self absorbed!!”

Unlike Hannity who makes every subject about himself?

Savage maxed out his donations to Brown because he supports him.

Savage is well familiar with Jerry Brown and his politics.

It is similar to his devotion to NAMBLA man and radical leftist, Ginsberg.

At least he has always supported Palin, hasn’t he????

Not surprised. Hannity's a boring lightweight. I don't think he's ever had an original thought [borrows his from Levin and Limbaugh] and has one of the most annoying voices of anyone in radio. By comparison, Savage is just a dope.

Maybe the station changes are affecting the ratings.

I believe so.

If you read past the first couple paragraphs, one sees that Wiener Nation is actually losing listeners in the big markets he picked up while Sean is growing the listenership on the stations he moved to.

Savage only has 8.25 million listeners to pick up somewhere, before he equals Hannity.

I don't think he will make it.

No he does not. Hannity will lose many listeners in the process.

Oh please, Savage donated to Brown because he likes him. He can try to weasel his way out of it but nobody believes him. It is stupid to give money to somebody to “encourage” them to do the “right thing”. I’d love to hear the supposed speach where Brown was “less liberal”.

Savage has a messiah complex and Hannity is dull. So...yeh. Not crazy about either.

I can no longer even find a station carrying Sean Hannity in Dallas.

He's on 660, The Answer (Mark Davis' station).

Hannity seems to be at his same 13.25 million.

Hannity’s support of Illegal Alien Amnesty, and his support of anti Tea Party folks, is killing him.

And Savage isn’t much better...which shows how much trouble Hannity is in
