'Winter in jeopardy' say Olympians pressing for climate change action

Olympians are speaking out on climate change at the Sochi games.

U.S. cross-country skier Andrew Newell, who competed in his event on Tuesday, posted a letter addressed to world leaders calling for action on climate change. Roughly 105 athletes from 10 countries have signed the letter, including 85 from the United States. "Winter is in jeopardy," the letter states. "Inconsistent weather patterns caused by a changing climate are causing destruction around the world, and the economic impact is being felt in both large cities and small mountain communities."

Maybe these people should get off the slopes and back to school and learn how to consult a reference.

Even Wikipedia gives the data in a five second wait time:

“Sochi has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification Cfa),[22] at the lower elevations. Its average annual temperature 65.1 °F during the day and 52F at night. In the coldest months—January and February—the average temperature is about 50 °F during the day, above 37 °F at night...”

Just goes to show that they are as bright as those University of California students who signed a petition to have gun owners executed.

Typical lib on a holiday paid for by someone else and complaining about the someone else.

Meanwhile, here in the Albany oblast of the People's Republic of New York, the National Weather Service just issued an update for the next few days that includes this happy portion:
THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF A PIVOTING MESOSCALE SNOWBAND BASED ON THE LATEST CSTAR RESEARCH. THE DUAL JET STRUCTURE SETS UP AT NIGHT WITH A SECOND JET STREAK MOVING NEAR NEW ENGLAND...OUR AREA WILL BE WEST OF THE UPPER JET AXIS/ LEFT FRONT QUAD/. PCPN EFFICIENCY LOOKS EXCELLENT WITH THE FAVORABLE DENDRITIC ZONE OF -10C TO -16C OVER THE AREA WITH THE POTENTIAL MESOSCALE SNOW BAND OR BANDS. SNOW RATES COULD REACH 3" OR SO AN HOUR...IF THIS BAND FORMS.

Maybe these concerned Olympians could do something productive with their lives like generate electricity with treadmills if they really mean it. What exactly is the carbon footprint of the pointless Olympics anyway?

It’s called a “Valley”.

Valleys typically have warmer temperatures than the nearby mountains, see Las Vegas.

"Inconsistent weather patterns caused by a changing climate are causing destruction around the world,

So that's what they are left arguing? Its not getting warm, its not getting cold, its not extreme weather. But weather is "inconsistent." LOL. When has weather been "consistent"? No wait, I know. It was "consistent" from about 1650 to about 1850 -- consistently freezing cold. Is that what we want?

QUICK! Send Algore to Sochi to speak about global warming. THAT should bring the winter weather to Sochi quickly!

What did they expect? I read that the average winter daytime temp in Sochi was 45 degrees. Did the Olympic committee even take that into account when they awarded the games to Sochi? Why, no, of course not. It was a political decision to give Sochi, Russia the games.

Winter Olympic games among the Palm trees, anything for the comforts of the IOC bigwiggs and the political corectness that is required in today’s world, LOL, anyway the weather in Vancouver and in Turin and just about anywhere they have had the Winter Olympic games in my memory has had some effect except perhaps Lillehammer in 1094 and Lake Placid, next time they will be in Korea and that is likely to be a weather disaster if previous snow events there is any indication, just remember, SLC was fine to.
