The only way blackmail works is if it is something incredibly heinous that could get Roberts impeached and result in a new justice appointed (by Obama) and the ACA re-considered without the criminal on the bench.

At least in part, Roberts flipping means they will never call it the Kennedy Court again. By making that decision the way he did, he make it the Roberts Court. Roberts as much as Kennedy became the swing Justice. That is a powerful personal incentive.

Roberts ruled as he did because he foresaw that if the Supreme Court were to kill the "Affordable Care Act" in its infancy, the ruling would ultimately backfire on the cause of constitutional governance.

Could be and perhaps far from the first use of this approach.

Supposedly, FDR let the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor to give him and/or US a reason to enter the war we couldn't stay out of any way.

Supposedly, GWB let 9/11 happen...

Personally, I don't know what Roberts is doing, but since I don't think we've been a Constitutional Republic for a very long time, "What difference, at this point, does it make?!?"

Been saying this all along. The tell:

"It is not our job to protect the people from the consequences of their political choices."

Some might say Roberts should not play such games with our rights, let alone our healthcare. Well, if it leads to a resurgence of Constitutionalism, I am all for it despite the cost. After all, our freedom is worth some short term misery and pain. This is especially true given where the left will bring us without a correction. Where it always does: mass death and slavery.
