De Blasio Denies Punishing Rich People for Sport
New York Magazine ^ | 1/22 | Joe Coscarelli

Posted on 01/22/2014 6:38:42 PM PST by nickcarraway

"They’re just mistaken,” said the mayor today, in response to the highly dubious, tabloid-stretched claims that he left the Upper East Side unplowed after yesterday’s snow. “No one was treated differently. We believe in a five-borough approach in everything we do.” He added, “I think people need to be mindful when they hurl those charges. That is not real respectful of the men and women who work so hard for us in sanitation. They were out there in force in every neighborhood.” Besides, as has been pointed out, Bloomberg’s snowplow guy is still in charge. And this is not New Jersey.

Aren't "the rich" De Blasio's core constituency and biggest backers?

That neighborhood didn’t vote for him. But New York has a lot of other neighborhoods where there are “his kind” of rich people - that is, media people, politicians, etc.

Yes, Wilhelm’s major backers are “the rich”, but not the way you and I understand it.

There are lots and lots of rich people, some of whom are very very rich who live between 63rd and 86th from 5th to York. But many of them REALLY LIVE THERE. Manhttan is their home. I lived there, too until I was 30, at 67th and York.

Wilhelm’s rich are the INTERNATIONAL rich. They are building the billion dollar glass wall on 57th. They might spend a couple of weeks in town, between Cannes and Davos, the VIII arrondissement and on safari at Richard Branson’s place.

They don’t believe anything can ever touch them. When those buildings on 57th open, they may have traditional Manhattan doormen on the street but they’ll have ex-paras with AR-15s in the lobby.

And what happens to the Manhattan full-timers, even “the rich”? Wilhelm’s super-rich could not care less. They’re just there for local color.

As I watched a commercial tonight aimed at bringing business owners and investors into New York State, I had to laugh. The idiot governor pretty much tells these same people that they’re not welcome while spending money on trying to woo them.

His statements should be a larger news story than what they are - as far as I’m concerned, he should be stepping down.
