What’s the big deal, according to this logic, Wal-Mart saves the taxpayers tens of millions by providing income to their employees, sale tax collected at their stores and taxes paid on company revenues.
A study a few years back showed that Wal-Mart had done more toward alleviating world poverty than all of the government programs from all of the governments worldwide. Wal-Mart provides jobs to million in the US in their stores and millions more around the globe making the products Wal-Mart sells.
Don't the White House and Democrat caucus do the same thing? (With their unpaid interns.)
Whoever accused you of being a conservative was lying their ass off!!!!
Go join your occupy wall street commune and leave FR to conservatives .
However I find it remarkable that politicians develop social welfare programs then complain when the programs are used. Is it Walmart's fault that workers may qualify for public assistance? Just because the Walton sit on billions that puts them under no obligation to pay workers what the market dictates.

Many WalMart employees rely on the taxpayers to make up for their lack of personal drive and financial planning.
Would you like it better if WalMart employees are completely on the dole, rather than just being on food stamps? At least they have a job and are working.
I’ve never seen any “press gangs” out rounding up people and forcing them into WM jobs.
So anybody who is oppressed there can head to some other “progressive” employer like Starbux or Costco.
Here’s the solution, then -
remove the dole.
Wages are supply and demand just like every other good and service.
“Wal-Mart Relies On Taxpayers To Subsidize Low Wages “
Well then dont work there. Or go start a competing business that pays whatever you want.
Wal-Mart is just taking advantage of the same system these people are taking advantage of.
Other than you, I never heard of a freeper thinking Elizabeth Warren was the voice of conservative economics. Odd.
I see lots of people working at Walmart and applying for jobs there.
Last I heard, none of them were being forced to work there.
Don’t care for the wages? Take your ass somewhere the pay is so much better.
Walmart and McDonald’s aren’t supposed to be careers unless you move up the ladder.
How many .gov & state employees are also taking subsidies from the taxpayer ?
Don’t care if it is Walmart Kmart Target McDonalds Burger King etc. Unless you are a Manager, Department Manager etc you will receive miniumum wage because it is a MINIMUM WAGE JOB! These are entry level jobs. Being a cashier is not meant to be a fulltime career living wage job. Bagging fries is not going to buy you a home. Grow up. You want more you have to be more..
Idiotic premise. Its not the fault of WalMart that we give food stamps and benefits to people who work retail jobs that are largely dead end anyway.
My sister has worked there for 20 years and is buying a home for the second time. She took the initiative and took some business management courses and raised her value to the company.
Do you get ALL your news from Democrat politicos? Are you a union fat-cat, or do you just parrot their talking points for them?
debbie wasserman is a FReeper... who knew?
Employees certainly have a RIGHT to ask for higher wages. They do NOT have a RIGHT to higher wages.
Wal-Mart has long been criticized for its pattern of offering wages that force its workers to take advantage of public-assistance programs.
No one is forced to take advantage of public-assistance programs, and government intervention is what suppresses the economy such that better jobs are hard to find. We have to discard the notion that the government can force prosperity upon society. Prosperity must come from growth, which requires successful competition.
The Chinese and Irish immigrants who worked for railroads in the late 19th century have long since moved on to better opportunities. The reason that Wal-Mart is able to pay these low wages is 12% or 15% systemic unemployment. If business was booming and employment wasn't regulated in a manner which penalizes the employer, businesses would be scrambling to find workers and the competition would give workers the leverage to obtain higher wages and benefits. IF unemployment was at 3%, rather than current levels.
But more government regulation will only exacerbate this downward spiral.
You cannot ethically force someone else to pay you more. Free market transactions are voluntary - requiring a willing buyer and a willing seller.
Well if Congressional Democrats say it, it must be true. /s
