Mitt Romney Accepts MHP's Apology: We Hold No Ill Will Whatsoever
The Right Scoop ^ | 1/5/2014 | Caleb Howe

Mitt Romney appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace this morning to discuss several topics, including the story that first broke on The Right Scoop, the segment on Melissa Harris-Perry's show last weekend featuring a Romney family photo.

ROMNEY: Well first let me just note, Chris, that we love this little guy a great deal. He was an answer to prayer and we love that he is a part of our family. He is part of our family. That being said, I recognize that people make mistakes and the folks at MSNBC made a big mistake, and they've apologized for it. and that's all can you ask for. I am going to mover on from that. I am sure they want to move on from it. Look, I've made plenty of mistakes myself. And they've apologized for this. And you know, I think we can go on from there.

WALLACE: Let me just ask if I can press a little bit on this, sir, you tend to speak from the head. I know Mrs. Romney tends to speak from the heart. I suspect she took this somewhat more personally. The idea that political discourse would include going after a little baby.

ROMNEY: Well, you know, I think people recognize and the folks at MSNBC who have apologized recognize, that people leak me are fair targets. If you get in the political game, you can expect incoming. But children, you know, that's beyond the line and I think they understand that and feel that as well. I think it's a heart felt apology. I think for that reason, we hold no ill will whatsoever.

The video is slightly longer than the transcript above. But I mean, what else could Romney say?

Translation: Sir, may I gratuitously characterize you as a heartless Republican for just a moment?

He perhaps could have added a few choice words like vile or attack to his sentence.

“Thank you MSNBC, for jump-starting my moribund political reputation.”

One of Romney’s greatest shortcomings is fear of alienating liberals. He may have principles but he won’t fight for them.

Love you, Mitt. But if children are off limits, why did you parade your group out in that picture?

Like him or not, Romney is pure class and graciousness as is his wife.

Can you IMAGINE the degree to which a Lefty would milk this for political gain?

The question is rhetorical because no one could possible imagine their prolonged hand wringing and hysteria.

"Ann and I are extremely disappointed that this "journalist" has been allowed to remain on the air. If a conservative made a comment like that, they would immediately be pulled off the air and sent to sensitivity training. MSNBC has a proud history of giving race hustling poverty pimps a microphone and this is just another sad example of the state of the American media."

Was it a photo used in a fund raiser? Don’t quite get your point. Are you actually saying there was some justification for the statement made by the libs at MSNBC?

I would chalk it up to liberals being idiots and can’t help themselves.

Mitt is a very classy and honorable man but he is one of the reasons the GOP won’t win, they won’t fight back.

Sorry, this would never happen. MSNBC would never put a conservative on air.

Getting tired of all these statements followed by “apologies”. This lady may be a repugnant, ignorant low life but let her speak freely. It is far better to hear what she and her ilk truly feel, think and believe. Politically correct self censorship and speech codes are inhibiting honest discourse, creativity and innovation in both private and public life. They are distinctively un American. The Soviets employed such restrictions, did not allow criticism or the free expression of thoughts, and look what happened to them.

No one is even questioning the underlying false premise here that Mitt Romney adopted a grandson.
