Christie Agrees to In-State Tuition for Undocumented Immigrants

The New Jersey Legislature approved legislation on Thursday that would allow students without legal immigration status to pay in-state college tuition. Gov. Chris Christie planned to sign it on Friday, a spokesman said.

During Mr. Christie’s re-election campaign this year, he spoke favorably of tuition equality.

The compromise bill will allow access to in-state tuition for immigrants without legal status who have graduated from a New Jersey high school after at least three years of attendance.

Mr. Christie said the legislation would become effective immediately, allowing students to take advantage of it in time for the spring semester.

I think given Hillary v. NJFatboy in 2016, most Freepers will write in Putin.

Putin looks out for the interests of Russia — unlike our current president or either of the two candidates you mentioned. I think they also have a 17% flat income tax in Russia...

These people are anti-American.

I'm not being rhetorical, consider:

Why do these politicians hate Americans?

It would be offensive for a kid from New Mexico to pay higher tuition than a kid who claims to be an illegal alien from Mexico.

Would you rather have them uneducated?

"Have them uneducated ..."?

How about "having" individuals procure their own education funding, whether they are illegal aliens, garden variety American kids, or ace high school students. Where they can get private scholarships, more power to them. But otherwise -- yeah, I'd rather have them "uneducated" on tax dollars, and that goes for legal and illegal citizens.

GOVERNMENT has no business subsidizing tuition for college kids. GOVERNMENT is intrusive and out of control.

Signing the quasi-amnesty bills that American Governors won’t sign.

I thought Christie was making so that Americans who went for 3 years in NJ qualified. Maybe the clown forgot.

It is a bad bill either way. But the way the Hispanderers attacked him for not giving them every single freebie is funny.

It's a subsidy if the state law gives assistance or breaks or preference to Jersey residents (that's fine, but it's still a subsidy presumably footed by Joisey tax payers). So if undocumented immigrants who live in Joisey -- Christie is too much of a weenie to call them by their more accurate name, "illegals" -- receive in-state tuition breaks in Joisey, Joisey residents are still paying for it and so are non-Joisey residents who pay full tuition.

I maintain that the government HAS ZERO BUSINESS deciding on whether or not students get tuition breaks, assistance, loan help, or anything else. THE GOVERNMENT HAS NO BUSINESS IN EDUCATION, particularly in higher education. It is a principle of limited government. A no brainer.

Christie is a loser and those who vote for him thinking they're voting "against" his opponent are engaging in unicorn fantasies. When they vote for Christie, they are voting for a man who is principled around MORE and BIGGER GOVERNMENT.

Christie's take here on in-state tuition for illegals (and his careful refusal to call them that) is prototypical of the mindset that American NEEDS TO DISCARD.

almost all democrat voters agree with all these corrupt leftist politicians (that’s at least the 40% of the population). then you have the news media who all democrats. the democrat party controls the presidency , the news media, the Senate, hollywood, the gov schools, academia, the global warming scientists, minorities, unions, lawyer associations, the gov workers, illegals , the news media, soros , etc. . these groups are All democrats. you beginning to see a pattern? you wonder why the gov keeps growing and why we are in trouble?

Well, if NJ has it and Texas has it...can they both be wrong? And if you think so, you probably need to talk to someone other than those living in NJ or Texas...along with other states who provide same.

Texas offers the same and our state budget certainly is not what I would call “robust”.
