The ‘Duck Dynasty’ Fiasco Says More About Our (Gay) Bigotry Than Phil’s
Time ^ | 12/19/2013 | By Brandon Ambrosino

~snip~

As you can imagine, everyone had an opinion about this statement, including GLAAD and Phil’s check-signer, A&E, who suspended the star indefinitely.

One of the conservative tweeters I follow—one of those Christians convinced that Obama is going to have him killed for his faith—lives for stuff like this. He quickly took to the Twitterverse and posted a side-by-side image of Pope Francis and Phil, with the following caption: “Both preach truth on homosexual sin. One is TIME’s Person of the Year. The other JUST GOT FIRED.”

~snip~

Why is our go-to political strategy for beating our opponents to silence them? Why do we dismiss, rather than engage them? One of the biggest pop culture icons of today just took center stage to “educate” us about sexuality. I see this as an opportunity to further the discussion, to challenge his limited understanding of human desire, to engage with him and his rather sizeable audience—most of whom, by the way, probably share his views—and to rise above the endless sea of tweet-hate to help move our LGBT conversations to where they need to go.

GK Chesterton said that bigotry is “an incapacity to conceive seriously the alternative to a proposition.” If he is right—and he usually is—then I wonder if the Duck Dynasty fiasco says more about our bigotry than Phil’s.

No, he just thinks they need to “back off” the arrogance a bit, it’s premature. Just long enough to “re-educate” us, then they can carry on as usual.

So Robertson has a “limited understanding about human desire” does he? He didn’t have all those children by staying celibate.
Let’s be very frank here. This is no longer about gays “loving” each other. Nobody has tried to stop these people from having loving committed relationships, including living together. They have been doing that without interference for decades.
What has changed is their “desire” to be worshipped for their “choice”, worshipped in PLACE OF GOD! This is about worshipping themselves and their lifestyle. It is about forcing their object of worship down our throats.

Yep. Phil is a very smart man. Has a Masters degree. I’m betting he remembers a scene from Song of the South.

Revised.

PHIL: Oh, please A & E, please. Don’t throw me in that briar patch.

A & E: You’re a vile hateful bigot. We’re going to fire you.

.... later.

A & E: Uh-oh. What did we just do?

Yeah. He’s asking question that he really REALLY does not want to know the answer to.

I wouldn’t doubt that something really grand is going to happen for these guys next.

A&E was their “starter platform”, and now they’re famous enough to go wherever they want.

God has a hand in this.

I heard they had this entire season filmed already, so what gets on air is already done.

But if I was the DD crew, I’d be going to A&E and telling them “Listen here. Either renew now at twice the price, or we walk.”

There is zero doubt other networks are chompin at the bit to get a piece of this action!

I would bet they have as many followers as Miley Cyrus, the difference being, the people who watch DD got a lot more cash than the teeny-boppers!

A&E just let a few high level management homos make a mistake based on their own sexual devancy that will cost A&E the most popular cable TV show of all time.

The Robertsons will go on to even greater success after they leave A&E.

But A&E will never find another Robertson clan to give them another most watched TV series.

... his limited understanding of human desire, ...

From what I've read of what Mr Robertson said, he has a pretty detailed "understanding of human desire." Along with an ability to file it where it belongs.

And an obvious ability to explain it in clear, plain language.

This writer wants to “engage us in a conversation” about anal sex??

No he doesn’t, he wants to dress up anal sex in flowery civil rights language.

To all those complaining about Phil’s so-called “racist” comments...

How many of you worked, ate, fished, hunted and lived with black farmers in the ‘50’s and early ‘60’s??????

>> “to challenge his limited understanding of human desire” <<

.
Sounds to me like Phil understands the sin nature of “human desire” quite well.

If true it's going to be difficult for A&E to cut Phil out of all those episodes.

Maybe they can paste Obama's Pajama Boy into Phil's place at the head of the dinner table.

At least this gay bigot is honest enough to question their “in your face” approach to dialogue and debate.

They don't approach dialogue, "in your face" or otherwise. They silence it. To them, any "dialogue" consists of their saying whatever they want and you shutting your homophobic mouth.

Just went down to Big Five sporting goods and bought a Duck Dynasty hat to celebrate Phil’s courage.

As of my typing this...Mr. Robertson's Facebook page has over 1.8 million Likes and steadily growing. How long before Facebook falls in line with the Sodomites and pulls the page????

It seems to me that if homosexuals were serious about fighting “homophobia,” they should be focusing their energy on showing others they have nothing to fear.

Christians are offended all the time. I’m offended when I see semi-nude photos in public places, when I hear my Lord’s name taken in vain by public school teachers, when commercials come onto my TV depicting obviously homosexual themes, and when I hear the F word at sporting events. I’m offended when I’m invited to bridal showers for a woman who has already been living with her fiance for years. I’m offended when I even receive mail from planned parenthood. But I tolerate the offensive behavior, because we live in a culture with free speech. That tolerance has to go both ways.

To be honest, I’m not only homophobic, I’m terrified that the homosexuals are going to use their influence to infringe on the practice of my sincerely held religious beliefs. This is a real threat. We are getting to the point where people can no longer speak aloud about Biblical values without losing their jobs and without having their entire publically families dragged through the mud.

It seems to me that homosexuals need to make it clear that they too are willing up with some things they consider offensive to accommodate Christians.

This article is a good start.
