The Acme, Irene’s at St. Phillip and Chartres, and the Port o Call on Esplanade for wonderful burgers.

The one time I ate there-—maybe 20 years ago-—I wasn’t impressed at all.

as a former Maker of bananas foster at Brenan’s I say thank you. It was in Dallas not NO, and it was their first move outside. They also opened one in Houston - it was sold to private folks Dallas died from the old Location location location problem.

If the bankruptcy results in the restaurant's closing, it will be a sad day.

***************

The restaurant has been closed since June. The property was purchased by a
cousin, Ralph Brennan, at a sheriff's sale in May. The original owners [Brennan's Inc]
are in bankruptcy which in essence they have only the name that maybe worth anything.

In 1989 when the then Mrs. Palm was expecting our first she decided that we would eat breakfast at Brennan's.

I knew we were in trouble financially when I saw the linen table cloths and the leather bound menus. I told myself that we would leave if she suggested it but I would be damned before I said peep. We opened the monstrous menus and I heard an overly loud intake of air from her. I enjoyed a giant private smile.

We had an absolutely marvelous breakfast for just over $100 including tip. I had seven cups of some of the best coffee I have ever tasted. I noticed that whenever a member of the wait staff didn't have an immediate task they had their own particular place to stand so that they could observe the needs of the patrons. They remain my personal standard for what a truly professional wait staff can be.

The next morning we had almost as good a breakfast at a local waffle place. That tab? $8.50.

There was one in ATL ~35 years ago, one of my college housemates was a waiter there, working his way through college. It has been gone at least 30 years.

I remember a college associate professor at Rice, who laid claim to founding the recipe used in Bananas Foster served in the Houston Brennan’s circa 1977/8,...he’d been there for many years at that time. Forget his name. He added everclear to the rum and cinnamon and butter.

This is hard to believe. Their business used to be strong and their prices far from low.

no I don’t, most of my shrimp ends up on a stick with steak or chicken and some veggies.

Start with a large one and open a restaurant.

True. Probably at least 90% of the time!

I have no idea why people go into the restaurant business with all the aggravation that it brings. Government inspections, unreliable employees, customers who complain and demand freebies for any stupid reason and then go ahead and post vindictive reviews on social media.

Truly takes a special breed.

Brennan’s of N.O. needs to be credited with starting the careers of many chefs. One is located in Cedar Hill Texas.

I miss the huge sandwiches at a place across the street from Napoléon’s in the quarter. I’ve been trying to remember it’s name for a couple of weeks. They had a special bun made in New York and really cold white wine in bottles. But it was the pastrami that was out of this world.

Only place I remember in the Quarter was the Twin Sister’s Inn.
