Florida State Attorney Willie Meggs said Wednesday that he plans to reveal the results of his office’s investigation into the alleged sexual assault case involving Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston at a press conference at 2 p.m. Thursday.

An alleged victim said that Winston raped her last December, while Winston’s attorney said the sex was consensual. The alleged victim’s family released a statement two weeks ago questioning the investigation.

Why don't I care?

Maybe it's because we are the ONLY country on the PLANET which has this "educational" system where we PAY college athletes, mostly black men, to play sports while getting a free ride to a university education. I think it's insane.

They make way more money for the University and local businesses than they “make”. It’s essentially a minor league for the NFL.

Football at FSU actually does pretty well at graduating players. If you're white. Scout.com says they graduated 100% of their white football players. [Sadly, only 55% of Black football players got diplomas.]

If you think those numbers are bad, Connecticut graduation rates for basketball players in 2012: 10%. When 90% of the kids in a program don't graduate, you can hardly claim you're even pretending they're students.

More college crap. This has been an issue on these campuses for years. Get these jocks who really shouldn’t be in college and this is what happens. I hope he is not guilty but then again this will become a race issue.

I know. They have essentially opted out of the education field and have gotten into the sport business. That ISN'T supposed to be the purpose of universities, is it?

Television is really to blame. And television can't be blamed because they are in the business to make money.
It's ALL about money. What else is new?

I only get annoyed with the pretense of being a school where these young men learn.
SOME universities are giving these young men "chitties" for a four-year education when they leave pro football or get even smarter and STOP football all together. The brain injuries from football are shameful. Let the pros beat their brains to a pulp; they are grown men...but not the teenagers. They have enough problems being teenagers without the brain traumas from football.

Amen, brother.

I agree, but we both know nothing will change. There is too much money involved.

I see you feel strongly both ways.

Just one of the reasons I always thought Calhoun was a sleazeball.

not all universities are making a lot of money off their athletes...

besides, they get up to $200,000 in scholarships, free food, free sports clothing, free tutoring, free publicity, and in some schools, free prostitutes....

they're treated as heroes and gods....

What I’m trying to figure out is why the girl would say it was rape unless it was. What does she have to gain? Apparently she had to leave school (you can only imagine how the FSU students would feel about someone threatening their precious QB). Help me out here, Freepers...

It wouldn’t be the first time if she was lying. Tawana Brawley and Duke LaCrosse ring a bell?

I have no idea what HER motive would be though

I wonder how many of those athletes even crack a textbook in those 4 years?

I doubt there are charges unless Winston is arrested between now and tomorrow.

Maybe she cheated on her boyfriend and had regrets and doesn’t want him to leave. Maybe she wants to sue the school. Maybe he’s guilty as hell. Maybe she had a lot to drink. I don’t know.

As far as Winston in reference to being a ‘real’ student, he was an honors student in high school and said to be in the running for valedictorian of his class at one point. He also had a scholarship offer from Stanford University, and I think Stanford would have expectations that he do real course work and get a degree. Too bad all that intelligence didn’t prevent him from getting into this mess.

Money, of course. By making the charge she hoped to receive an offer of cash from the University in exchange for dropping the charges. This is a she said he said situation and although I am not taking sides because I do not know what happened (only the two involved know), I do believe it is far to easy for a women to totally destroy a man by an accusation of this type.
