Fox’s Red Eye Announces the Departure of ‘Repulsive Sidekick’ Bill Schulz
Mediaite ^ | November 22nd, 2013

Posted on 11/22/2013 1:07:28 PM PST by presidio9

Early Friday morning on Fox’s Red Eye, host Greg Gutfeld finally broke the silence and announced the departure of long-time “repulsive sidekick” and panelist Bill Schulz.

The brief announcement came after a prolonged, unexplained Schulz absence from the show.

“A lot of viewers have wondered where the heck Bill Schulz went,” Gutfeld said. “Sad to say he has decided to move on from the show. He’s been a close friend of mine for 13 years, and he’s been a huge part of Red Eye since its inception, and we wish him the best.”

No further reason was given for his departure.

Schulz had been with Red Eye from its inception on February 5, 2007, until this departure, often serving as the butt end of the show’s running gags and foil to host Gutfeld.

UPDATE: Mediaite received the following comment from the network, via a Fox News spokesperson:

“Fox News and Bill Schulz have decided to amicably part ways.”

A perfectly annoying asset to the show. Too bad.

Agreed. The ombudsman role was perfect for him.

Sorry to hear the news. Never really watched RedEye all that much but the few times I did I quite liked Bill. Greg Gutfield does much better on The Five, I think, and I always thought he was outrageously funny when he was a desperate last-minute stand-in host in place of O’Reilly. Bill Schulz, if you read this, I hope you do well, mate.

“I share your respect for Andy’s military service, but I wouldn’t watch a comedy show featuring General David Petraeus either.”

Oh, now stop that. For all you know, maybe David Patreaus has a good sense of humor too in private life. Then again, maybe not. Andy to me is quick and funny, just in a different way than Bill You are right about Bill’s lightheartedness, but it would not be easy for anyone to replace him; he is unique. But he is gone, they needed to fill the chair, Andy was a logical choice, and if Andy didn’t have his own quick humor, he wouldn’t have been on the show in his prior position either. Each to their own, but I like Andy, and I like his sense of humor, different from Bill’s as it may be. But as to my original comment on this thread, I will really miss Bill. Godspeed to him.

Aww. I liked Schulz, most of the time. Didn’t agree with him, but he was a good sport and funny in his own way. Best of luck to him.

BTW, am I the only one secretly hoping to see Michelle Malkin in the Red Eye “leg chair” some day?

Any kin to Special Ed?

Actually, he is a direct descendent of one of the men who rode with Paul Revere.

From Wikipedia:

He is the great-grandson of businessman Henry M. Dawes, who was the son of Civil War officer Rufus Dawes, who was himself the great-grandson of William Dawes, who famously rode with Paul Revere before the Battle of Lexington & Concord at the beginning of the American Revolution.

That's a bummer. While many times his views were slanted left, he was fun on the show.

I just hope they plan on replacing Bill. Or maybe that's why they changed to the new format (which I don't much like), where Andy Levy sits in the entire episode. Granted, I like Andy, but I loved the halftime report and snippy/snarky comments he had for each guest and Greg. Those seem to be missing now without the half time and post time breaks.

My favorite guest however, who I wish they would have on as a regular (maybe take Bill's place) is Gavin McInnes. Although sometimes I like it when Gavin's dad, Jimmy McInnes shows up. And I always get a kick when his liberal hippy brother Miles McInnes is a guest.

Too bad. I liked his brand of comedy. One of the few people that could make me laugh out loud without saying anything but just with a facial expression.

The show won’t be the same without him.

OTOH, Jedidiah Bila has been on more often.

Bill was a “do or say anything for a laugh” type of comedian, and it worked more often than not. I thought he came up with some really inventive ad-libbing. He made me laugh more than the other regulars. Gutfeld gets a little repetitive with some of the memes he does over and over again. And he’s outclassed against McGurk in their O’Reilly segment just as much as he was on Red Eye.

The all-time funniest and most brilliant guy I’ve ever seen on Red Eye is Gavin McInnes. He’s absolutely fearless and, I think, a staunch Tea Party conservative. If they give him a permanent chair than they’ll be in good shape.

That being said, of course he was the liberal. And the show needs to replace him with another one.

They've got enough leftists and half-leftists (libertarians). They need a regular Tea Party guy on staff to balance out the left-leaning slant of the show and the best choice is Gavin McInnes.

I liked Bill.

Missed him this A.M. but I didn’t catch the beginning of the show.

Agreed that the best replacement is probably the assorted members of the McInnes family. If Greg insists on keeping Andy at the table out of loyalty, I don’t think he should abandon the ombudsman role. Mike Baker has historically done the best job as his replacement, but I doubt he wants to join the show full time. S.E. Cupp was also great in that role, but she works for the enemy now. Personally I was a big fan of Dana Vachon. The show that I believe) got him fired was my personal favorite (when he used the entire Halftime Report to ask the guests non sequiturs. Unfortunately, he burned all his bridges with Fox after he left, so I am assuming he won’t be back. Also, as far as I’m concerned, Jedidiah Bila is cute but she brings nothing to the table in terms of humor. Unless there is someone else I want to see at the table, I usually switch it off and get some sleep when she’s on.

If these are your concerns about the show, you are entirely missing the point.

Fine with me. Now they can get rid of Gutfeld and crew.

Red Eye is occasionally entertaining.
