“I first heard the Ramsey Lewis version on a juke box in Darmstadt, Germany in September, 1965. But I still prefer the KRLA version by Dobie Gray from March, 1965.”
I was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia at the time and went to Washington, D.C. one weekend. I was at one of Ramsey Lewis’ performances at the “Bohemian Gardens”, if I remember the name of the club correctly. That is where I heard “The In Crowd” and later bought the album after leaving the military.
It is fascinating to me how the human brain can remember suck trivial things. ;-)

I am going to take a wild guess here: “Stairway To Heaven” by Zep is still # 2. # 1 is one of the group, “The Rolling Stones” hits, right? ;-)
It was about 10 years ago that Rolling Stone chose a ‘junk’ song like “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” over Zep. What hypocrisy! They did so because they ‘stole’ their name from the group.

Most of the bottom 50 confound me! I can only guess what the top 50 will be like, based upon the bottom 50. ;-)
