Academic stagnation in so large and rapidly expanding a segment of the population has some sobering implications for our nation’s standing in the world. The fact that U.S. students score worse on standardized tests than their peers in many foreign countries is widely known. ExxonMobil’s “Let’s Solve This”campaign warns that “the Program for International Students Assessment [PISA] ranked U.S. students 17th in the world in science and 25th in math.” PISA is a project of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development that tests fifteen-year-olds in over sixty countries every three years. The 2009 test results are summarized in the U.S. Department of Education’s “Highlights from PISA 2009: Performance of U.S. 15-Year-Old Students in Reading, Mathematics, and Science Literacy in an International Context,” which includes an ethnic breakdown of U.S. scores.

Few educators will be surprised that Asian Americans had the highest PISA scores, followed by non-Hispanic whites, Hispanics and African Americans, in that order. More will be surprised to learn that in only one Asian location (the city of Shanghai) did students score better than Asian Americans, in only one European country (Finland) did they score better than non-Hispanic whites and in no Latin American country did students score better than Hispanic Americans...

This is the problem we face, and indeed the problem with all socialist systems. If there is no reward for working hard, then more and more people (not all - there are always some who love their work) will simply stop trying.

And it is the Leftist philosophy of “Multiculturalism” that will consign them to this fate.

The philosophy that all cultures are equal and that there should be no pressure on immigrants to learn the American language and assimilate in to the American culture will severely limit the immigrants ability to learn the skills not only to achieve high grade on test but to climb the corporate ladder to higher earning jobs. Not being able to effectively communicate with your supervisor or peers will severely limit any employee’s ability to rise in any organization. It has nothing to do with prejudice and everything to do with effectiveness. You can’t be effective if you can’t understand or be understood.

The multicultural philosophy will also doom America to a balkanized fate of tiny city-states in side of major metropolitan cities through out the country where the accepted passport is a skin of the right color and a familiar accent or eventually the ability to speak the language of the local tribe.

The Leftist nonsense that this country should not have an official language or common culture is condemning the immigrants in this country to being a permanent underclass and second class citizenship under the guise of protecting them from the tyranny of the majority and condemning the country at large to endless civil strife and racial violence.

The death of a socialist system is assured when all sense of shame is lost. When those who live off the work of others are allowed to live better than those who pay for their support and they are allowed to walk around and pretend to be middle class people in public if they wish or simply get tattoed from asshole to elbow and sashay around as if THEY are the superior class the end is on the way. We have bums who act as if they are royalty because they don’t work and they laugh at those who do. The system can only survive when those who live off largesse are shamed and want to find a way to be productive so they can hold their heads up in public. This mess is collapsing and there is no short term way to fix it.
