“one is a new mom, and another is due to give birth soon.”

No mention of daddies... I WONDER WHY?

I’d really love to know what she’s buying for that $800

Edible food-like substances. IOW, not food.

Four adults and not ONE can find even a 10 hour a month part time job to make enough to cover the $44?

I call BS on this.

There was a typo in my first reply. They only have 2 kids. Still, this is a very difficult time for them.

Since I wrote my last post I spoke with this family again and they relayed the same problems you mentioned about getting help. Calls that are never received and when calling back, the government (whoever it is) doesn't answer. This is a mess, yet we continue sending billions to other countries.

No...I’ve already priced it out. You won’t eat steak and Lobster but for a single person one can do quite well for 37.50 a week. Eggs can be soft poached and scrambled in a micro wave by the way...and even hot cereal. Off brand canned vegetables can be cooked in a microwave. Of course I’m assuming one has access to a stove, a fridge, some plastic wrap or some Tupperware for storage of leftovers, and some cooking utensils.

The trick is you can’t eat like a pig and you won’t eat a lot of processed or pre-packaged crap. You will eat left-overs. Basic food that needs to be cooked from scratch still is a relative bargain compared to processed easy to microwave crap; inflation hasn’t hurt the basics hardly as much as compared to the prepared “ready to eats”. A dozen eggs and a rasher of bacon can last a week assuming one has it for breakfast daily( cost 5 dollars). Quaker Oats quick oats are about 2.50...store brands are a dollar cheaper. A gallon of 1% milk costs 2.97 at my local Kroger and can last a week. 1 large loaf of bread about a dollar 39. Cans of cheap soup. Lots of cheap stuff. One could do much with cheap hamburger and being in Virginia, pork is really quite cheap.

I’ve lived singly and adjusting for inflation back to my single days and knowing what things cost now, I could do 37.50 a week quite easily today relative to what I did on 20 dollars a week in 1989.

Maybe it’s her husband; she used her disability payment to get her “wedding ring” out of hock. Why doesn’t he have any income? This story is ridicuous.

Kick those “adult” children and their spawn out of the house and let them have to find men to tolerate and support them.

Indeed, they do get some help from food banks. Their autistic child doesn't count for some reason so they only get food stamps for the 3 of them rather than the 4.

I haven't seen her (the mom) in a year but friends say she is extremely thin. I thought she was extremely thin a year ago and can't imagine her any thinner. I'm half expecting her to look like a holocaust victim when I see her tonight or tomorrow.

What I meant by “stuff you can cook in the microwave” was

“stuff that doesn’t require effort”.

That’s what they buy, when it’s not fast food.

I can’t imagine the autistic child not being included on the food stamps. I’ve never heard of that and I know 2 right off the bat in families on public assistance.

There’s other stuff going on in that family. No clue what it is but be aware.

If they get food stamps they likely get SSDI for the austistic child as well. That can be as much as $600/month depending on the severity of the autism.

Something’s not right with the story you’re getting.

I was thinking hers looked professionally done too... But that’s because I was sitting in one of those walk-in places, waiting for a trim. The young woman ahead of me spent $100 plus $10 tip on a color (I saw the receipt on the stand).

She had been sitting in the chair complaining about how hard it is to get food stamps here in Tucson (this was a couple of years ago). Single mom with her dad taking care of the kid and paying the rent, yet she is still leeching the taxpayer.

That $110 could have bought a lot of food, but instead, the healthy 20+ something wanted to be a blonde. Her excuse for not working was that she was in school. I had heard enough and was about to blow, so left the shop and went to another one until it was my turn.

Just checked out “Just Mugshots” website and there is a woman with her name, from her town in Florida who looks suspiciously like her (hard to tell with all the makeup she has on in the press photo) and fits her age profile perfectly.

http://www.justmugshots.com/florida/spring-hill/3434850

From the site:

Accusations: 948.06 Prob Violation, Violation Of Probation Misd
812.015.2 Larc, Petit Theft From Transit Agency 2nd Off

Accusations: 812.014.3a Larc, Petit Theft 2nd Degree 1st Offense

Anyone else want to check this out and see if I’m imagining things?

Holy cow. That’s a lot for a dyejob.

I had a friend who really needed the foodstamps when he was in grad school. His wife had been supporting them but lost her job. He went to apply (this was in 1990) and was told school was a choice, if he was really hungry he could get a job.

Same chin line, same nose shape, similar mouth, same eye color, same ears, same skin tone. I’d say that’s her.

Right you are. Suspiciously similar.

Might be why she can’t get a job.

I think they're getting SSDI but not food stamps for the autistic child. She said something about it but it's a world in which I have no knowledge so I'm not familiar with the terms. She can't work much because the autistic child requires so much care. I know she's a hard worker when she can get work. If I heard correctly, the SSDI helps pay the rent. He (the husband) is having trouble finding stable work.

When I stop by I'll get a better sense of what's going on.

Do.

I’ve never ever heard of an autistic child on SSDI who qualified for food stamps not getting them with the rest of the family.

Kudos to the mom for taking care of her kid. That’s not an easy task.

It is? I’ve never had mine colored in my life, so didn’t know...

I had five part-time jobs at one point when I was in grad school — and this is one of the cheaper towns to live in (that’s why half the city seems to be on meth and/or welfare).
