What specific things are you doing in life to lower your personal carbon footprint? And what is the biggest one specific thing I as an individual can do to reduce mine?
Gore responded by saying, I use only carbon-free electricity. Have 33 solar panels on my roof, seven deep geothermal wells under my driveway, LED lights and highest-grade energy-saving windows, max insulation, hybrid plug-in car, etc. No fountains, btw. What you can do? Make smart choices for low-carbon options in the marketplace, make sure you divest from carbon-intensive stocks; be a smart and active citizen! Let politicians know the climate crisis MATTERS to you A LOT that you will WORK and contribute to candidates who really champion solutions and that you will seriously work hard to DEFEAT candidates who ignore climate or take the wrong positions on climate. Help put a price on carbon in the market and put a price on denial in the political system.

How did he get there?
Isn’t he flying around on private jets? What is the carbon footprint of that?!
FUAG! Shut the heck up!
What an assclown, This mouth breather never held a real job and he has lived of the sweat and hard labor of the amirican worjkers. his old man was a Klans man, He got 100s of million to fund an electric car that flopped. He is nothing but a hypocrite. Flying around in jets and burning more fossil fuels than an average family uses years. Typical Leftwing communist asswipe.
I will turn on some incandescent lamps and vacuum tube radios today just to offset Algores carbon footprint. If you take the huge leap of logic that assumes he’s right about anything, sometimes hastening the demise of some specific parts of the planet doesn’t sound like such a bad idea.
Like 33 solar panels took no carbon to manufacture, ship or install and seven deep geothermal wells were drilled with carbon-free energy. Like his massive house and its max insulation windows took no carbon based energy to make, and I’m sure the illegal aliens who manicure Gore’s lawn use no carbon based fuels in the process. Plus Gore couldn’t have freed up all sorts of carbon when he clear cut that massive swath of land for so his pompous ass could sit in a palatial eco-friendly house. That’s not counting, of course, the thousands of gallons of carbon-based fuel spent flying said ass all over the world so he can harp on the little people who can’t afford to buy all this high tech eco-crap. Except we actually DO get to pay for it indirectly when our government channels $ billions in green handouts to Gore cronies.
I wonder if Gore eats carbon-free food, as well.
Probably not. He looks quite well-fed.
I doubt his electricity is carbon free. I don’t think he has enough collectors. For Denver to get its electricity from panels they would have to cover the whole rest of the state of Colorado.
Gore and his tin mines are the biggest polluter in Tenn.
Would be interesting to run a comparison of how many years would be required to pay off the embedded carbon incorporated into these high-tech and expensive devices relative to the conventional alternatives. Since all such devices eventually require replacement, it is not impossible their life cycle carbon cost is actually greater.
Why doesn’t he just remove his carbon footprint all together? Here in Oregon, he can even get physician assistance.
the load of carbon generated during the preperation of any meal that al gore would be satisfied with has to be MONUMENTAL.
Gee Al, if you look at the amount of energy it takes to mine and refine some of the semi exotic materials in those new gadgets... oh and don’t forget special procedures and processes for safely disposing of or recycling them... vs the energy savings over their projected useful lifetime.... I haven’t run the numbers but, I strongly suspect you aren’t doing the world any favors, may even be a net loss when compared to a more mainstream approach. But then Al, you couldnt promote all this AGW and carbon footprint nonsense you are so heavily invested in, could you? Spare us the thin veil of philanthropy, this is all about money to you. A lot of money.
That is true, too, but it is not exactly what I had in mind. Food consists of carbon compounds.
How much he has reduced his carbon footprint is of little interest. We only want to know what his carbon footprint is, compared the average American. If he started out with 100 times the average, and reduced it to 90, he is still an energy hog.
The energy savings of a mansion filled with LED lights is wiped out if he takes a hot shower one minute longer than the average person.
One cross country trip on a private jet wipes out years of use of an “energy efficient” car.
Not eggzackly.
That (whole) state of CO presently consumes about 50B kwy annually. With metro Denver, at roughly 50% of state population, presumably consuming about half that.
According to this site, solar panels sufficient to generate that much electricity would require somewhere around 125 square miles.
http://www.newscientist.com/blog/environment/2007/07/just-how-much-land-does-solar-power.html
State of CO is >104,000k square miles.
If you have other numbers, feel free to run them.
There are of course lots and lots of other problems with solar power, particularly in a climate like CO.
It's a perk the ruling class elite have granted themselves.
If you don't Windex them every single day, their efficiency drops by the day.
You are correct about the energy it took to produce the solar panels and geothermal wells.
A good bottom line to whether you actually are saving energy is to look at total cost. If the cost of the installation is greater than the cost of the electricity saved, you probably have not lowered your carbon footprint, but only “demoted” your carbon footprint.
A good answer to us having an efficient mix of use and conservation, balancing cost and benefit, is to stop all subsidies and special taxes for the production or use of energy, or for re-cylcing.
The easiest thing Algore can do to reduce his carbon footprint is to STOP BREATHING.
