Butter is bad – a myth we've been fed by the 'healthy eating' industry
the guardian via pioneer press ^ | 10-23-13 | Joanna Blythman

Government and health charities have been doling out duff healthy eating advice for decades, but when are they going to admit it? That's the question raised by the remarks of cardiologist Aseem Malhotra, who writing in the BMJ has challenged the orthodoxy that the consumption of foods containing saturated fat, such as butter and red meat, causes heart disease.

Malhotra is brave and principled to speak out, yet he is far from a lone voice. In 2010, a major review of scientific studies on fat, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, concluded that contrary to what we have been lead to believe, “there is no convincing evidence that saturated fat causes heart disease”. In the UK, other independent-minded nutritionists and medics, including John Briffa, Zoe Harcombe, and Malcolm Kendrick, have vociferously countered the biggest public health dogma of our times.

Back in the 1950s, American housewives were brainwashed; butter bad, margarine good. Butter consumption dropped, margarine consumption took off. So did heart disease.

But now we now that margarine is loaded with trans-fats, which aren’t found in nature and which has been linked to heart disease, among other maladies.

The supply of Avo oil is on the upswing, because more and more farmers are planting them, and when a crop is not marketable all they can do is make oil out of it.

Not at our house.

My mother was a hospital dietitian, and would never allow margarine to be served under any circumstances. She knew what it was made from (petroleum)

We also got lots of beef.

Butter or olio? Seems like butter would be far better for you based on this fact alone:how much more easily it can be washed away

Margarine is liquid plastic. It should be banned.

I confess my ignorance. But I just peeked. The contrast between CLA in the milk and meat from grass fed vs grain fed cows is very interesting.

I’ve just discovered Promised Land Dairy’s milks. The Jersey cows are fed mostly on pasture and the taste is incredible. The bonus is that the company is a Christian based one.

I also have access to raw fresh goats’ milk and free range eggs. Grocery eggs just do not compare.

I think canola is also mostly if not all a GMO crop.

I think that is where the name Rapunzal in the fairytale came from, the pregnant wife had a craving for rape and off he went to the witch’s garden.

Canola is a registered name of genetically modified rape, which is a fast growing variety of mustard.

Rape oil is ok, but canola is pure poison.

Yep. My son’s girlfriend had never had a fresh egg and could not understand why he raved about them. Then she had some and knew.

Just add inflammation to the sugar and carbs and you have it. Refined and processed sugar is poison. It even feeds cancer cells.

What is Avo oil?

I love popcorn cooked in coconut oil. I even melt the oil and use it like butter, or mix it with butter. Love coconut oil.
