Obamacare is a giant leap forward on the path of more bureaucracy, less choice, worse quality, and higher cost. It continues removing decisions from consumers and providers and placing them with third parties. It makes health care decisions even more contingent upon rulings by the IRS (THE IRS!!!) than they already were – and the fact that our health care financing system is largely overseen by our tax collection agency should be absurd on its face, and yet Obamacare doubles down on this absurdity.

Not forced. The penalty for not having insurance is just a pittance the first several years -- IIRC $250 in 2014, and increasing quite slowing for several years. At some point the penalty is slated to increase dramatically, but we'll be into single-payer by then.

I wonder if this is behind the sudden, nationally-coordinated effort to raise wages at fast-food restaurants. Most of those employees are young people, and if they don't get a substantial raise SOON they will really feel the impact of having to buy health insurance, even at subsidized rates. It will feel like a big pay cut.

They will. Just give crack to a control group for 2 weeks and they will love it and just try to take it away from them. They will love it even knowing that it is really bad for them. People did not want social security when FDR forced it on us. You don’t have to take it away to hear the squeals, just try to cut it 1%. If people get hooked on Obamacare care, it will be here to stay, even if it is the worst possible healthcare system for the US.

Hey, I am not forced to pay taxes. However, if I don't pay my taxes....

Also, I heard from our HR folks where I work that the first year will be $95 and then two years later approx. $600. Maybe a lot more after that.

They'll adjust the amount based on mid-term elections and such.
