What We Just Saw
The National Review ^ | 9-24-13 | Michael Walsh

In the aftermath of Senator Ted Cruz’s epic performance on the Senate floor, a few observations:

After his disgraceful attacks on Cruz, including his reach-across-the-aisle, dog-in-the-manger response today, this should be the end of Senator John McCain as a voice of influence in the Republican party. Ditto his mini-me, Senator Lindsey Graham. Indeed, the entire Old Guard of business-as-usual “comity” fans passeth. When you care more about what the other side thinks, it’s probably time either to switch teams or step down.

There is new leadership in the GOP, whether the party wants to admit it or not: Cruz, Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Jeff Sessions, and the others who stepped into the breach to spell the senator from Texas.

The popular reaction to Cruz will be immediate and noticeable; the more the old bulls carp, the more the public will rally to Cruz’s side. The country has been spoiling for a real fight since the election of 2008, and now it has one.

Conservatives have finally realized that, as it’s currently constituted, they have no home in the Republican party, which is the Washington Generals to the Democrats’ Harlem Globetrotters, the designated losers who nevertheless are rewarded handsomely for their sham opposition.

To that end, conservatives understand that rather than form a third party, their only hope is to seize control of the corrupt, rotting hulk of the GOP, which they now can do with the help of a reinvigorated Tea Party — especially with Lois Lerner’s IRS off its back.

Senator Cruz certainly shows that he has the qualities conservatives are looking for in the Republican Party. Could this be the start of new Republican leadership? We - the voters, supporters, campaign workers, door knockers, etc. - will have to decide if we want it to happen. If we have a leadership we can support than we have to step up an be counted.

The RNC has been calling daily. I don’t answer the call.

The GOP makes we want to puke these days with likes of McCain “leading” it.

...this should be the end of Senator John McCain as a voice of influence...

But then I thought that happened before and was sadly proven wrong.

Speaking of Miss Lindsey, anybody else notice she hasn't been seen much lately?

I to ignore the GOPO. Not worth my time. They really no longer care what I have to say, they are just after my money to elect rats.

After spending over forty years as a registered Republican, I cut myself loose from that pathetic bunch of eunuchs and registered last year as a Conservative. Guys like Ted Cruz, God Bless him, just may bring me back!

Speaking of Miss Lindsey, anybody else notice she hasn't been seen much lately?

I suspect linda may be in heat and is shacked up someplace with her boyfriend.

Or, she's plotting how to overcome THREE very capable people who want her job. The primary and runoff next June (scroll down) will be very interesting.

Could this be the start of new Republican leadership?

It most certainly is. That rumble you hear in the background is the indignant harrumphing of the old guard who see their end approaching.

They don't like it one bit, and will continue bellowing until their offices are cleaned out.

Why not tell the RNC that Cruz and company represent Conservatism, unlike the RNC and the GOP. Furthermore, tell them that you will only support and sponsor Conservatives like Cruz and you will not make contributions to the RNC nor the GOP RINOs.

McCain is under the influence of some voice, not American, not conservative.

The problem with the McCains and Bushes, et al is that they’re simply part of the ruling class, each waiting his turn to steer the Leviathan’s teat toward their cronies and manage the federal apparatus and apparatchniks as they will.

There is no reason to think the Tea Party, if properly organized and harnessed, cannot be even more potent next year than it was in 2010, especially now that its members know the government really was out to get them.

I won't hold my breath for 2014, but by 2016, yes...the old GOPe machine should be gone. I know the democrats are having themselves a wet dream at our internal GOP civil war, but if real democrats did the same to the progressives who have co-opted their party and they got back to representing the real hopes and dreams of AMERICANS, they too will have a civil war on their hands.

Harry Reid, calling them Tea Party Anarchists. What's a matter Harry, do they scare you more than OWS? Does it scare you the Tea Party accomplished more in less than 6 years...than all the decades it has taken the progressives to get where they are now?

And make no mistake, the Tea Party has made inroads into a derelict government very quickly and we can make the same inroads into the culture to restore Freedom. We can do it, but will we choose to be the 'silent majority no more?'

Graham is in danger of being primaried. Like McCain, he needs to go. There’s absolutely no reason whatsoever that a milquetoast like Graham should represent a state as solidly conservative as SC is.

Actually, RINOs and conservatives have been at each other's throats since the days of FDR.
