I can’t wait until the LA Slimes does the right thing and puts their few remaining full time employees on the exchange.

The Senate easily overcame Wednesday’s first hurdle to a fizzling GOP strategy....

This was not a GOP strategy. There's was just the same ol' same ol'. The hell with the GOP.

These are Tea Partiers!

Cruz 2016! Just wait and see.

...If we're still around.

you don't vote for a pub because they're liberal, I can understand, but you must understand that your vote puts many rats in office....thx for nothing....

we have to choose our battes in order to win the war....its all uphil...we're not going to get everything we want....but can we at least work for SOME of what we want?....we can't when the rats control the Senate and the White House, and the Sup. Court and the media...

Cry me a river. I won't vote for a liberal(R) and lots of other folks won't either.

Don't blame those that won't vote for a lib for your cheating GOP establishment that puts liberals up for election.

Maybe his motive is to do what's best for the country.

Just as Palin's motive was not to make money writing books.

Too many here are acting like Democrats who always hone in on demonizing motives rather than what a person actually says.

Don't fall into that trap.

>> I have an uncomfortable feeling this whole thing was about maximum TV time for Cruz and a possible Presidential run. From what I’m seeing here, it’s working.

Well, at least you’re uncomfortable. Go take a break on the can, and see if it passes.

>> What Cruz is doing has no chance of success but sure is getting him a lot of TV time.

And what if the vote for cloture didn’t reach the required majority which requires about 25% of Republican support?

You and a lot of establishment Republicans aren’t helping much with our limited “chance of success.”

Please help me. I keep hearing these RINO republicans, one on Hannity radio yesterday, saying that he would vote for cloture on Friday because he doesn’t want the GOP blamed for a govt shutdown. Explain to me the reality here.

If 25 % of republicans unite cloture doesn’t pass...then what happens? I fail to understand Cruz’s logic. How do we gain leverage? How do you force Harry Reid to put the original House Bill up for a vote? Do you specify that in he cloture vote, that voting for cloture is a vote to then vote on the original House bill?

If this is true....then why not block Reid. Let the govt shut down because Reid ad Obama would be shutting it down. The people want Obamacare defunded...then this is the way to do it.

Tell me where I am wrong here.

Ok... found my answer...

The Senate procedure is complicated but, in essence, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will be attempting to stuff Democratic amendments into the continuing resolution that funds government without Obamacare. One of these amendments will call for restoring funding and Reid will move for cloture to end debate. If Republicans allow this, they are allowing the restoration of funding for Obamacare. Of course, “leaders” will pretend that they fought the good fight, but that the majority won out. That’s what passes for leadership these days.

Sen. Ted Cruz has been rallying support for his promise to do everything he can to block Obamacare. If McConnell can deliver the necessary 41 Republican votes, Sen. Cruz can filibuster the continuing resolution until Reid plays by the rules and allows for the 60-vote threshold necessary to pass the House’s resolution.

Yes, it’s complicated in the sense of maneuvers and details.

It’s my understanding that once cloture completes, Reid can essentially strip out the symbolic House Republican gestures. If cloture fails, the Democrats have the option to continue funding existing liabilities with the exception of Obamacare; however, the Democrats are threatening to halt all funding if cloture fails.

The process is tantamount to that of kidnapping where the hostage is inevitably killed off despite the possibility of the payoff.

Well, I’ve called my senators but they are Chuck Shumer and Kirstin Gillebrand - as hard core leftists are there are in the Senate.

So, Gene, do you see the strategy and effective or ineffective ie McConnell getting the necessary republican votes to block cloture?

I am still at a loss to understand how this will work ie if the republicans hang together and stop the cloture vote.

Cruz wants to filibuster that second vote

Then why did he filibuster the first vote instead?
