MOSCOW – The environmentalist group Greenpeace says two of its activists have been arrested after climbing onto an oil platform in Russia's Arctic waters. It claims warning shots were fired across the organization's ship.

A Greenpeace statement says the arrests were made Wednesday in the Pechora Sea, a section of the Barents Sea. The activists, who climbed a platform belonging to state gas company Gazprom, are being held on a Russian Coast Guard ship, according to Greenpeace.

The statement said the Coast Guard fired 11 shots across the Greenpeace ship that brought activists to the area.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Security Service, which includes the Coast Guard, said she had no immediate information on the incident.

Story was, Back in the day, when the ‘bad guys’ thought it good sport to attack American Embassies someone noted that only ONE Russian Embassy was attacked. ONE.

When ‘investigated’ it seems after the attack one of their people was being held for ransom and Moscow virtually said ‘Keep him’.

Then they started sending body parts or a body to the offending country and PROMISED them the longer the siege was on, the more ‘packages’ they could expect.

Siege was over quite quickly and I think the next ‘problem’ was J Carter and an embassy ....... where we languished for quite a while and J Carter tried to ‘solve’ the problem by turning down the White House heat and be ‘captured’ on camera wearing a Cardigan Sweater......

Too bad there wasn't a sign: “Trespassers will be shot.”

And "Long Haired Freaky People, Need Not Apply".

In fact they were hosed at the very same place a year ago.

“Trespassers will be shot.”
= = = = = = = = = = =
It wasn’t all that long ago that the sign wasn’t needed in this country.
One knew whose apples you could pick, which field to cross, which yard to make a ‘shortcut’ out of etc.

If you didn’t follow the ‘rules’ you suffered the consequences and one of the favorite admonishments was “You know you weren’t supposed to be there”.

Then some wag figured that the car sitting in your driveway wasn’t worth a ‘human life’ or even the beating up of a human, regardless whether that car was YOUR lifeline or not.

That stretched to the having a debate whether a ‘breaker/enterer’ was entirely in your house when you dispatched him.
Then ‘they’ started charging YOU with luring him into the house etc etc etc.

Now you are better off ‘inviting the prowler for cookies and milk’ and hope he hangs around till ‘911’ responds.

Of course he will be out before you get the table cleared off and more than likely be back with some reinforcements.

But joebama and his peers figured it out by suggesting one shoot a shotgun off the back porch if you hear someone breaking in downstairs.....

Feed them to the polar bears.

Aw, heck no! You don't want to give the polar bears the munchies. They might try to eat people who are worth something.

>>>Story was, Back in the day, when the ‘bad guys’ thought it good sport to attack American Embassies someone noted that only ONE Russian Embassy was attacked. ONE.<<<

In fact there was one case of destroying a Russian Embassy. Coincidentally, it happened in Tehran, Iran in 1829.
Just a few years before it, Russia has won a Russian-Iranian War (it was about to teach Iran a lesson over an alleged persecution of Christians).
An incident started with a mob lynching two Christian women and one man who somehow managed to escape climbing over a fence of Russian Embassy in downtown Tehran. These people were aware of Russian position toward religious issues and requested asylum. Russian ambassador Griboyedov has granted asylum immediately and ordered marines to open fire on a mob storming his Embassy. Local imams fond it as a major insult on Islam and soon about a half of Tehran’s male population gathered around to riot. Russians has run out of ammo very soon, their compound were captured and everyone got killed, including Griboyedov.

As for an event you are mentioning it has probably happened in Beirut, Lebanon circa 1985, as Hezbollah abducted a KGB operative lurking around their mobs.
KGB has abducted one of Hezbollah leaders, a family members of other leaders and sent privates of some of them to Hezbollah headquarters.
A KGB agent was released a few days later.

You must have forgotten. The people who are worth something are “bitter,” so would not taste good to polar bears.

Are you nuts?
Yes.

what it is that makes you hate POLAR BEARS?
Because when I was young I learned about how a Polar Bear was always trying to eat Chilly Willie.

A statement like yours will bring the zealots of PETA down on you big time.
They too could be fed to the Polar Bears.

I'd let those pirates go. I'm sure they'd be quite comfortable on an ice floe
You favor polluting the pristine Artic ice with trash?

When you are climbing onto an oil platform you cease being an “activist” and become a trespasser or a saboteur.

Shoot them.

I’d pollute nothing! The ice floe would provide a “tasty snack” for hungry polar bears. Would save baby seals.

They should have sunk it.....

Per Greenpeace's Twitter:

The following evening the Coast Guard illegally boarded Greenpeace's ship, the Arctic Sunrise. Activists are currently being held at gunpoint by the Russian Coast Guard.

Sinking the ship would be, of course, declared all over the world as "barbaric," so Russia has to walk a fine line here. Greenpeace perhaps wouldn't mind sacrificing a ship to get such a strong negotiating position. But instead they are being arrested for illegal border crossing. The crew of 25 has four citizens of Russian Federation; the rest are foreigners. That alone gives the border control agents the legal right to intercept the ship, even if the criminals are forced to interrupt the crime. (Being chased away is not an excuse.)

Gazprom's security sidekicks threaten protestors with guns

Poor, naive boys and girls, what the #$% did you expect, trying to initiate a cross-border attack on a foreign state? Do they even know what initiated the World War II? And they are attacking a property that is inherently dangerous to work on, in an unforgiving cold sea. A property that costs quite a lot of money. Every company and every state that has such dangerous machinery is required to defend it from yahoos. The guards were in their right to use .50 cal machine guns on the attackers as soon as they crossed the invisible line in the water 3 miles away. Did the Greenpeaceniks think that they can waltz across the border waving not passports but Greenpeace flags?

The ship is now under arrest, and it will be delivered to Murmansk. The Department of Foreign Affairs has already sent a complaint to Netherlands, where the ship is registered. Something tells me that Netherlands won't be sticking their neck out for Greenpeace. I suspect that the Russian government will simply confiscate the ship. This will surely send a message. Greenpeace may have some money, but not so much as to give ships away as gifts.
