As of right now, Bill de Blasio is the man to beat in the race to be the next mayor of New York City. The latest polls put him at 43%, which is enough to avoid a run-off in the Democratic primary, and it is widely believed that whoever wins the Democratic primary will sail into office. For the most part, sitting mayor, Michael Bloomberg, has stayed out of the race, but in an extensive interview with New York Magazine the term-limited Independent ripped de Blasio's campaign as "class-warfare and racist":

2)The commercial isn’t racist. He shows his family in the commercial, like every other politician.

Early polls following the entrance of Weiner into the race in April showed De Blasio in fourth or fifth place.
Despite this poor starting position, de Blasio was able to gain the endorsements of many major Democratic clubs such as the Barack Obama Democratic Club of Upper Manhattan as well as New York City’s largest trade union, SEIU Local 1199. Celebrities such as Alec Baldwin and Sarah Jessica Parker have also given endorsements. Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean and U.S. Congresswoman Yvette Clarke have also thrown in their endorsements. By August, Harry Belafonte and Susan Sarandon endorsed de Blasio.
De Blasio gained media attention during the campaign when he and a dozen others, including City Councilman Stephen Levin, were arrested for protesting the closing of Long Island College Hospital. Fellow Democratic mayoral hopefuls Anthony Weiner and City Comptroller John Liu were also at the protest but stayed in the background to avoid arrest. De Blasio and Levin were released a few hours later with a disorderly conduct summons.
Over time, de Blasio began to move up in the polls and a mid-August poll showed him taking the Democratic lead for the first time. and reached 43 percent in a Quinnipiac poll released September 3. [/snip]

Well, every broken clock in the junkyard is right twice a day, and Bloomberg has a valid point on this one. DiBlasio is the most leftist NYC mayoral candidate among the left-leaning field in the 'Rat primary, as can be seen by the Hollywood celeb endorsements he has gotten.
In this instance, I believe that Bloomberg is teed off about DiBlasio using his black teenage son sporting a big Afro hairdo as campaign ad prop, while DeBlasio promotes his biggest issue: staunch opposition to Bloomberg's police "stop and frisk" policy. The racial undertow for DeBlasio's ad is pretty obvious. He's saying that nice black teens like his son are frequently innocent victims of the Bloomberg policing policy.
Bloomberg has already announced that if Joe Lhota wins the GOP primary this Tuesday, he will endorse Lhota vs. the Democrat primary winner, likely DiBlasio, in the general election in November.
Is that kid wearing a wig? He looks like something out of a 1975 JJ Walker sitcom.
Thompsons’ race is get racist also. He now has a black voiceover of a young man saying something to the fact of “It’s time for US to have our side heard” I always thought he was an underdog, but with this latest last minute change of policy, who knows what will happen. If they take Di’Blasio as the lead because he has a son and wife that are black, they would surely prefer to have the real deal Thompson. I never thought he was or would turn racist, but it sounds that way right now with the latest ad. I think once Quinn gets knocked out, it’s really gonna get nasty.
There haven’t been many polls of the GOP primary that I’m aware of but Lhota has a large lead in the most recent one.
The other Republican, Catsimatidis, appears to be a Bloomberg clone. I wonder why Bloomie doesn’t support him.
Sorry, I'm not that familiar with JJ Walker. But it's definitely a retro '70s Afro hairdo. Despite the term "Afro," even some kids who weren't black wore them back then, like TV's Juan Epstein (the "Puerto Rican Jew") on the famous sitcom, "Welcome Back, Kotter."
JJ Walker was pretty much at the same time as Epstein - maybe a few years later or earlier. Poor old Epstein - my high school musical comedy friend - got burned by Hollywood and died very early and in poverty. Sad, but true.
Rudy has put out a half-hearted ad on Lhota. Pretty pathetic. Catsimaditis is so offputting that the NY Times (which I hate) said: clean up Gristedes and then we’ll talk about NYC.
Bloomberg and Catsimatidis seem to have some similarities: Both are self-made gazillionaires and Cats seems to be a ROC (Republican of convenience), just like Bloomberg was when first ran for NYC Mayor back in 2001. Cats seems to have had a lot of Democrat pals in earlier years, including Bill Clinton and David Dinkins. But Bloomberg may be officially neutral in this Republican primary out of deference to Rudy Giuliani, who is Lhota's top backer now, just as the then outgoing Giuliani was an important factor in Bloomberg's initial race in 2001.
I've heard that Bloomberg will officially endorse Lhota this week if Lhota wins the GOP primary as expected. Don't know whether a formal Bloomberg endorsement will work more to Lhota's advantage or disadvantage in the general election.
I don't agree with you on that. Why do you say that the Giuliani ad is pathetic? Lhota is kind of Giuliani's protégé in this race and there's no doubt that Rudy has been supporting him from the get-go, regardless of what any of us may think about Lhota's RINOishness.
I’m just talking about the ad which starts out that Lhota has been lied about. I thought he should have extolled Lhota achievements. But I guess as the former head of the MTA, he has nothing to brag about.
I think what Bloombird said was that if De Blasio wins the primary, he will vote for Lhota.
Have see a Cats... Ads on TV. Have not seen Lhota ads. Of course I live on LI but we usually get all NYC ads.
