I remember when school cheerleaders had loose fitting sweaters and knee length dresses.

Yes, I am old!

“Does no one know that cheerleader outfits like these have matching shorts? These girls are not giving out crotch shots. Sheesh.”

How am I supposed to know that? I didnt see it in the article and the only pics shown are the crotch shot outfits.

If you had a daughter that was a cheerleader in high school, you wouldn’t care if adult males were ogling her like a slab of meat at a game?

I am a man who was a teenager when the miniskirt arrived. I disapproved of it then and disapprove of it still.

Thank you!!!

Cheerleaders have been wearing those outfits for decades!

Why the problem now?

Zero tolerance=zero brains, zero judgment, zero cajones.

There are times you can't tell the libs from the conservatives.

(I'm in a snit, Sir, how dare you muddle the issue!)

This isn’t about a dress code. It is about eliminating and not recognizing student achievement.

Some conservatives are so deeply into conspiracy theory and oppositional politics it is kind of psychiatric, IMO. We know libs at the extremes can be, also.

I think the solution is obvious:

1. Change the dress code so that the cheerleader uniforms are within the code, or

2. Change the uniforms so that the cheerleaders are following the dress code even when in uniform.

Why is that hard?

“And just what achievement are we talking about here? Prancing around with pom poms and chanting in rhyme? That’s about as impressive as the lunk heads they are cheering for. IT’S A GAME! Wonder why even the suburban schools suck now? Maybe because it’s all about games and clubs and if some actual learning takes place, well that’s just a bonus. The whole concept of what’s known as high school should be done away with.”

You are correct re some of the cheerleading in many schools.

In some high schools, the cheerleaders are being replaced by dance teams with most of the girls taking dance lessons for well over a decade. In our area, the two public high schools and one private school have very strict qualifications besides years of dance school, like a minimum of a 3 point average, zero discipline problems and a low tolerance for being absent or tardy at/from any regular classes. Any known use of alcohol/rugs on or off campus results in dismissal from the dance teams.

We have a younger female relative in another private school, and she had 4 days of tryouts and had to commit to continuing private competitive dance lessons if/when she was chosen for the school’s dance team. After being accepted, she went to a boot camp type of school at UC Davis for a week. This summer, she worked out 3 half days a week with her new dance team. Many days, after dancing practice, she had science, math or computer classes to help her tune up for the fall semester. She had to read several books and pass oral and written tests re what she learned from the books.

To stay on the dance team, she has to have/maintain a higher than a B average, and is allowed 2 absences from practice and strict attendance in her regular classes. She never missed a day of school in her middle grades, and she was a straight A student. Her current high school has a zero tolerance for alcohol and drugs.

All of the gals on her dance team are superb athletics. She was very good at soccer and gave it up for her dancing. She is probably as good of an athletic as her younger brother, who wrestles, is a cross country runner and is a catcher on good baseball teams. We joke, that she has an 8 pack set of abs instead of a 6 pack abs set. She does a set of 25 real pushups several times each day besides stretching exercises and running at least a mile several times each week.

She is very typical of the other girls on their dance team.

Wow I never thought about it that way. Weird that young girls are hardwired to crave male attention and if denied it in the home they will seek it and act out. We’ve looked at the reasons why the youth of certain culture mainly does what it does and deduce that part of it is single mom syndrome with no male head of household. Maybe it’s also why women are becoming more sex obsessed and no self respect...because of absent or lacking in morals fathers.

Most female dress codes in Florida public schools have a “finger tip rule” for both shorts and skirts.

As a female, and also the mother of a daughter, that seems to me about right, in order to maintain an absolute minimum public standard of decency.
There will always be those who want to push the boundaries.
That's fine.
But there always comes a time when society pushes back, and hard, against what is considered acceptable, and what is not.
For instance, it is no longer considered acceptable in Florida society for women to openly work at hot dog stands wearing thong bikinis along public roads.

I am sure some people miss that, and might feel picked upon, or that their “individual freedoms” are curtailed in public settings.

For all those who think “sexy” skimpy costumes on teen-aged girls are perfectly fine in public school settings...the push back is going to be hard to accept.
