try being the only white person at an all-black get-together with a black friend and see how he treats you when he gets around other blacks.

Update: Been there done that a couple years ago, no improvement. You're exactly right, they be pretty much conditioned to hate whitey w/o cause.

I’ve been there too, and no awkward moments either. I was the only white face among 40 or 50 people. We had a good time.
I see more problems arising from class differences, not racial differences. However, class and race often do follow the same track.
