My last battalion commander in Germany fit that mold. Through his leadership, our C-3 battalion turned into a C-1 in a bit over a year. He did it by getting rid of the slackards and malcontents by signing off on Chap 13 discharges for over 10% of the battalion.
He demanded his officers and NCOs show initiative and imagination.
Speaking for myself, it was a truly enjoyable 18 months.
It’ works...:o), you and I both know it as many more know as well. I suspect a PC environment, and a multitude of problems in other units that support this wing versus the core. It was always some extraneous crap I saw bring down a units rating. Such as the skis weren’t waxed at the morale, welfare and recreation MWR shop or the commander was ignoring the wives club etc ... That stuff should never be in such a test of combat ability yet it is. I would also suggest that such tools that higher command use to ruin a commanders career include a very very hard inspection. Sort of nitpicking crap like a remove before flight pin had frayed or faded material on a new and serviceable pin.
Not sure if this was such an event , hope such wasn’t in play. Yet I have seen such in the past.
Simple concept of leadership as you know will fix and maintain ANYTHING !
Hope yer well troop...stay safe !!
