Late-Night Shenanigans in the House
Heritage Foundation ^ | 7/11/2013 | Amy Payne

Posted on 07/11/2013 6:26:22 AM PDT by IbJensen

The House leadership appears to be pulling a fast one on the American public and even fellow House members when it comes to the farm bill.

The House has split up the farm-related programs and food stamps, which is great news. However, they didn’t make a single reform. That’s not the worst part, though.

Every five years or so, Congress passes a new farm bill. The entire purpose of this reauthorization process is for Congress to fix the law if problems exist. The House appears to be doing away with this process for many of the most costly farm program provisions. As a result, bad public policy could be locked in indefinitely.

House leaders have sold this flawed farm-related bill in part by getting rid of existing “permanent law.” So it may surprise many that the bill would just replace this existing permanent law with new permanent law that may even be broader in scope.

Further, the House introduced the text of its farm-only bill last night, and current plans are to vote on the bill as soon as mid-morning today. They are rushing it through the process and not giving members a chance to offer amendments, properly review the bill, or even determine the extent of this potential bait and switch when it comes to permanent law.

This flawed bill simply brings the same troublesome farm programs up for a vote that were considered and soundly rejected by the House a few weeks ago.

Everything that was bloated and egregious in the bill is still bloated and egregious. •It still goes out of its way to tax Christmas trees, in an effort to override the Obama Administration’s decision to not tax Christmas trees. •It still drives up food prices—which hurts low-income Americans most. •It still spends more than President Obama even wanted to spend on the costliest farm program, crop insurance. •It still hands out taxpayer money to these surprising recipients.

As Heritage expert Daren Bakst wrote:

The current agriculture portions of the House bill need to be reformed. They were flawed when they were combined with the food stamp program, and they will still be flawed if they are separated from food stamps. These sections don’t magically get better by being on their own.

Bakst noted that the House’s insistence on pushing the same old bill to a quick vote—without allowing amendments—only makes matters worse:

When a bill makes Obama look fiscally responsible, it’s a financial fiasco. When the process would trample on open and representative government, it’s an insult to American citizens.

I've said it many times before, but the Republicrat Party continually demonstrates that they and their cousins, the Democrat Party, aren't more than an inch apart. Roll out the legitimate third party with candidates that are truly conservatives and when we add our votes to that of the disaffected in both parties we'll win.

We need a set of Amendments defining their process for them.

All bills must be publicly posted on the Internet and in prominent public spaces for at least 90 days, and a public comment period scheduled, before any votes are to be taken.

The entire country is being running by a small cabal on both sides of the aisle.

The House is supposed to be the people’s house and yet is run by a small group of RINOs bent on big government and corporate interests over the will of the individual middle class taxpayers.

Add to this the maneuvering to get some type of amnesty no matter what.

Bills also can have no riders or additions and only be one page per bill.

Text size should be at least 12 point font as well, with no more than 300 words per page

What the HELL is going on in our government? Parties ramming through bills without comment periods or amendment permissions. Late night shenanigans. Complete and total lack of order as evidenced by the Senate adding revenue generating laws in an immigration bill that should be proposed and issued from the House.

This nation is completely lost. The Democrats and liberal Republicans (I repeat myself) are pushing and pushing and pushing and seeing that no one is calling them out on their bullshit, so they keep taking and taking. We’re waking up every day with fewer and fewer rights and a less ordered government.

One day very soon we’re going to wake up and realize America is completely gone.

Anyone who still believes that the republicans in the House and Senate are not New World Order Socialist/fascists are morons.

They do not cave, or go weak kneed as Rush, Sean, Sarah, Mark, Ann, Michele and all the rest of the conservative media talking bobble heads like to say, THEY ARE EXACTLY THE SAME!

Interesting bunch of thugs. Yesterday, a poll showed 62% of hispanics want...

1) Border secured

2) No amnesty.

So we need to pass amnesty to get the hispanic vote, do we?

I hope God’s judgement is that they spend eternity in HELL.

It’s not too late to take these jackasses to task. The Third Party needs to be established and rolled right up to the gates of Congress like a catapult in days gone by.

This government needs to be besieged.

One asks, “Why are the elected politicians in league with the evil Obama regime in an attempt to destroy America?”

Because they believe that under a new world order with America as a junior partner, they have a chance at a really big job, or a pat on the back by the European leader of the New World Order.

We’ve got to get them out as quickly as possible.

I’m happy to see so many people espousing a third party, but we need a literal ground swell of supporters to make any changes. I’m talking a literal earthquake of supporters, disenfranchised voters from BOTH parties who want to see this change.

when Club for Growth and the Heritage foundation are against your ideas and you are a Republican, you probably should think twice about voting for it.

Wasn’t one of the crying, spineless one’s rule something about 3 days of debate before any bill was voted upon?

Next you’ll know, the GOP will be abandoning its own platform. /s

I wonder how many of the ‘fight from within’ are still toeing the line?

They are no longer capable of creating legislation in our governing bodies. All they can serve up are crap filled sandwiches (so called legislation) that the people are supposed to eat.

So instead of voting on a single bloated, pork-laden farm bill, the House is going to split it into two bloated, pork-laden farm bills that will likely spend more than the original bill did?

And Congess wonders why it's approval ratings are so low?

One day very soon we’re going to wake up and realize America is completely gone.

I used to think that we could weather anything, and I said so on FR here and there, but I think we are just about finished as a nation. We've got a bunch of limp-wristers running the House, willing to do whatever they need to do to please their Democrat masters. Their compatriots in the Senate also do the bidding of the Democrats.

People are just now waking up to the NSA stuff, even though the Bush administration was trying to press full steam ahead on it over 10 years ago (and FReepers were the ones point it out back then). The IRS stuff appears to be slipping out of the public spotlight. We have so many Republicans in Congress telling us we need amnesty, even though everybody knows it's not really about pleasing Hispanics, but satisfying those with deep pockets who want to legally depress the labor market in certain industries (or rather depress wages and benefits).

I could go on, but the point is that the Republicans in Congress are not the opposition party any more. Sure, you have a few Rand Pauls (who is soft on amnesty) and Ted Cruz's, but they are few and far between and stick out precisely because there are so few like them.
