Barnes & Noble CEO Resigns
Business Insider ^ | 07/08/2013 | Steve Kovach

Posted on 07/08/2013 7:44:05 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Barnes & Noble CEO William Lynch has resigned. His resignation is effective immediately. Michael Huseby will now be the CEO of NOOK Media and president of Barnes & Noble. Allen Lindstrom has been promoted and will serve as the company's new CFO.

The news isn't a huge surprise.

Barnes & Noble has largely failed to adapt to the growing tablet and e-reader market. And although its Android-based Nook tablets have received decent reviews, they haven't been selling very well.

In May, Barnes & Noble made a quiet admission that its Nook tablets weren't selling as well as it had hoped when it added Google's Play store for apps and other content. That means users are no longer incetivized to purchase digital content like books and movies from Barnes & Noble. It also means Nook owners were likely frustrated by Barnes & Noble's dim app selection for the tablet.

I think that is bull. I have never had trouble finding conservative authors from B&N.

I have been to B&Ns in liberal districts and cities. Never had trouble finding any book.

I’ve never had any problems in my local B&N. Even in the weeks following Sandy Hook, they never hid any of the gun or hunting magazines. The were where they always were in the past.

What I have seen is conservative directed authors/book which are hidden behind leftist books. Mostly kiddie BS.

I think it’s awful that brick and mortar books stores and hard copy book industry is suffering.

B&N attracts libs, so what? I never have trouble finding what I need in there and they are always helpful in ordering.

In my neighborhood it attracts homeless people and deadbeat students, not people buying books, so stores tend to get shuttered.

Yep. I just realized, though, that I am quite in error about local backup if you choose to download the AZW (or MOBI or whatever) files to a local computer, and then manually bring them into the Kindle from there. You can back them up like anything else on your hard drive. What you can't do is suck them off the Kindle directly for backup. At least not on mine.

If you don't want them to get at the machine, turn off Wi-Fi. They could still reach you if they tried hard enough but they most likely won't.

People go to brick and mortar stores to browse, then go online to buy. Really, you’d have to be crazy not to, though I do make the occasional “guilt” purchase.

These days, having a physical footprint isn’t a winning business model—especially if it just provides a showroom for competing online vendors.

And one more thing - I believe if you use that method the files you’ve downloaded will only work on your specific Kindle.

If I buy a book at a brick-and-mortar store, I walk out with my book, just the one item if I want only that, without feeling compelled to buy enough other items to qualify for free shipping.

I’ve saved a lot of old history books. “Old history” needs to be maintained by as many of us as can!

Yes. You can get almost any books on Amazon. If not, go to www.bookfinder.com. ;)
