CAIRO (AFP) – Militants in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula bombed a gas pipeline to Jordan on Sunday, witnesses said, amid a surge in attacks on police and soldiers since Islamist president Mohamed Morsi's removal from office.

Witnesses told AFP the blast took place near the North Sinai provincial capital of El-Arish, scene of major disturbances since Morsi's overthrow by the military on Wednesday.

On Friday, armed Morsi supporters stormed the provincial headquarters, raising the black banner of Al-Qaeda-inspired militants, an AFP correspondent reported.

A Jordanian government official confirmed that gas supplies to the energy-poor kingdom were cut.

"The gas supplies to Jordan stopped due to the attack," the official told state-run Petra news agency.

In my naïve earlier years I kept rabbits outside in a cage I built myself. Wire screen bottom with gaps big enough to let the crap pellets drop, etc. I made a small box for them to sit on and get in should they want to drop a kid or two.

That took all of a week for them to fill it up with rabbit shit pellets.

There is a lesson here about savages destroying their own country, destroying your neighborhood while rioting, etc.

These guys are sitting out in the desert (I've been to El-Arish) with absolutely nothing to do with their miserable lives, they're bored to tears and some Al-Qaeida guy comes along looking for some volunteers to blow up a natural gas pipe to Jordan or Israel.

They say to themselves, “wow, some action”! These pipelines have been blown up 26 times already and the one to Israel is no longer working. These pipelines are part of the Camp David Accords of 1978.

So, Achmed, the leader says, “I'll give each one of you 2 Piasters (Egyptian currency) and a copy of a 1978 Penthouse magazine from the Infidel American scum, if you place this bomb under the pipeline”.

What young, unemployed, frustrated, ignorant POS Muslim is not going to have a heyday with 2 Piasters and an old copy of Penthouse?

Nothing else going on in town, no babes, no booze, not even a greased up goat, nothing!

Jeez these guys are pathetic, so off we go to destroy, instead of building and...kaboom!

Holder's people. Obama's people.

The Sinai will be the last thing on the list -- 99% of the Egyptian population lives within a day's walk of the Nile. Once the Bro-hood has been rounded up in-country, anyone who flees to the terrorists -- who have been thriving in the Sinai for years now, well back into the Mubarak era -- will be proverbial fish in the proverbial barrel. Interfering with lawful commerce -- much of which benefits or is owned outright by the Egyptian military people -- will ultimately result in a just and untimely demise.

Semi-off topic, but do those gas lines have automatic shutoffs every so far that activate when the pressure suddenly drops, as in a line breach?

Any FReeper engineers care to instruct us?

Yes, but it takes a significant leak for a quite a while.

Think how quickly a ballon deflates if you don’t tie a knot. Now think how long it would take if that ball on was hundreds of miles long. It takes a lot of gas to leave to lower the pressure below the “normal” low pressure cutoff.

I’ve been on sight for the purging of a new line prior to being put into service. In that situation, the vent screams at sonic limit for hours and hours.
