Rubio: You can't compare immigration reform to ObamaCare
The Hill ^ | 6/25/13 | Daniel Strauss

Posted on 06/26/2013 6:42:13 AM PDT by jimbo123

The immigration reform proposal backed by a bipartisan group of senators can't be compared to President Obama's healthcare reform law, said Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), one of senators that introduced the proposal argued Tuesday.

"First of all, ObamaCare, you can't compare the two," Rubio said in an interview on "The Michael Medved Show."

Marco Rubio clearly has some very tall challenges set before him. In simple terms, he was cozened and beguiled by Chuck Schumer, with a mixture of false promises and perhaps some flattery on his good manners and pleasing image. Then Chuck just plain blindsided the young Senator, in an almost textbook example of how even the most idealistic of newcomers can be compromised, and yes, corrupted by trying to fit into the “good-ol’-boy” network.

The technique is known as “getting to yes”. Start off with something you know the target is fully in agreement, and get the response of “yes” with every progression through the various degrees of moving to the eventual position desired. By cutting this into small enough pieces, and reassuring the target that certainly he has it right now, eventually the target ends up at least sideways of the original position, if not altogether reversed. And the target just sits there, asking himself, “How the hell did this happen?” The target is then unable to adequately explain how the conversion became somehow irreversible.

It is entirely possible that Senator Rubio could shake off this assault on his principles and good sense, but at the moment, we cannot count on this happening spontaneously. By the same degrees of step-by-step getting back to “no”, the course correction is a probable outcome, but by no means certain. Opposition research on the Rubio family, at some level, can still be used against the future deliberations that Senator Rubio may engage in, but when exposed beforehand, much of its venom is drained before it can have an effect.

And you may be sure, all these steps have been plotted out well in advance.

When you pass a long complicated bill that goes against the interest of the American people, then the comparison is most apt.

>I don’t hear him crying “rape!”<

And neither does the young lady that was sweet-talked into a compromising position. No actual physical compelling force was used, the participant was in agreement to a point WAY beyond going back, and while there is the feeling of being cheap and used the following day, still it APPEARED to be with consent. Is crying “Rape!” meaningful then?

Or do you not see the conundrum here?

Incredible. I don't think I can remember anyone crashing harder.

I started out thinking he was just a poser, then a poser who was outed, then maybe he was being blackmailed and had to do as told.

At this point, I have no idea what to make of Marco Rubio, just make it go away! ASAP, before it does more damage.

Compare?

Hmmm, thousand plus page bills that no one knows what’s in them, goodies for everyone in exchange for votes, it’s going to cause misery to millions of hard working Americans and Harry Reid is going to make sure it passes through reconciliation.

Only difference I see is Obamacare passed the house after the Rats bought off some Republicans. This time Boehner will sell out the Republicans.

no, it’s too sublime for me. in your example, there is no victim, only a consenting individual.

Rubio’s dug himself a huge hole and his solution now is to dig faster.

I did not say that Senator Rubio was a “victim”, he was a target, which is a somewhat different nuance.

Words mean things. It is the almost-right word that dilutes the meaning of the more descriptive and accurate term.

Rubio is still denying that he ate the cupcake. (ignore the frosting on his lips)

Shumer told him that it was a cupcake and that ain't frosting on his lips {and shumer will respect him in the morning}.

“so, he’s a consenting adult?”

That was the implication. Seduced and left, but in the sense that co-operation was going on at the time, yes, a consenting adult.

Even adults are not immune to moments of weakness.

The part you left out of your analogy is that the young lady in question was already a whore. She was not sweet talked, she was a willing partner fully expecting to get her price — amnesty for illegals, out of the deal.

Rubio was always pro amnesty. He lied every time he said he wasn’t.

Rubio...Rubio...I’ve sort of lost track. Didn’t he used to be somebody famous? Rap star? Soap opera actor?
