Cornyn Joins Effort to Repeal Death Tax

Jun 25 2013

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) issued the following statement after cosponsoring the Death Tax Repeal Act of 2013 to permanently repeal the federal estate tax:

“The Death Tax is an unfair and unjust tax that attacks family-owned farms, ranches, and agricultural businesses across Texas. No grieving family should be hit with a tax burden as they say goodbye to a loved one. It’s time to put common sense above Washington greed and get rid of the death tax once and for all.”

The bill is supported by the American Farm Bureau Federation, Associated Builders and Contractors, National Association of Manufacturers, National Federation of Independent Business, 60 Plus Association, Americans for Tax Reform, Club for Growth, National Black Chamber of Commerce, International Franchise Association, National Taxpayers Union, American Conservative Union, Family Business Coalition, and many others.

That makes 3 things John has done this week that I approve of...standing with Cruz on immigration, blasting Obama on his speech today and energy, and now this. I question is Conservatism at times...but the death tax has gotta go.

Nothing like an upcoming re-election to concentrate the mind!

People with a lot of liquid holdings protect their money by various means. It is the family farm and business that has to be split up and sold to pay the tax man.

why not just come out and say that double taxation is unjust, not right, and immoral.

bcause the death tax IS DOUBLE TAXATION. it’s tax collected on stuff that’s already had taxes levied against it. if the spouse is still alive there should never be any taxes collected because it was joint property, now it’s the surviving spouse’s sole property. and people ought to be able to inherit what their folks lbuilt up and left them without having to sell a family business to pay the g-damn tax man.

Dead Red Ted Kennedy was always there to keep it. Yet he sheltered the Kennedy estate. Funny how that works.

Yeah, I surprised all this is coming from RINO Cornyn as well. He still needs to be primaried next year, but at least these issues aren’t things we need to spend time pounding on him with phone call.

I have enough to do with calling my liberal, Gosnell-loving witch of a state senator, who is now filibustering an abortion law.

I would add grave robbing to the list of death tax injustice.

I hear ya...I have been listening to WBAP all day and laughing during their newsbreaks about it. “She still hasn’t gone to the bathroom or leaned on anything...coming up after traffic.”

You must be talking about Senator Pink Tennies who has as her supporters the merry maidens of Hangerville.

Will be interesting to see what happens if she does make it to 11 p.m. She’s holding up a rather substantial transportation funding bill - suspect most of it pork - that Dewhurst, Strauss and other of the merry men really want to get funded. Their mistake was in thinking that the abortion bill was a shoo in so everything else after that would surely pass - pork or not.

So, if she holds out, will Perry call another special session? And if he does will he put the abortion bill back in? Guess time will tell.

Thanks Ted.

Having a spine is better than taking the lobby money.

You taught John he had better man up.

Once amnesty passes the death tax will be irrelevant. The Dems will have a majority that won’t bother with waiting for anyone to die, they’ll just confiscate the wealth of those who haven’t paid tribute to the ruling class.
