Today, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announces that nationwide, 77.8 million consumers saved $3.4 billion up front on their premiums as insurance companies operated more efficiently. Additionally, consumers nationwide will save $500 million in rebates, with 8.5 million enrollees due to receive an average rebate of around $100 per family. Today’s report includes the 2012 health insurer data required under the Affordable Care Act’s Medical Loss Ratio, or “80/20 rule.” The report shows that, compared to 2011, more insurers are meeting this standard and spending more of their premium dollars directly toward patient care and quality, and not red tape and bonuses...

Anyone here that had less premiums last year, or this year than before this abortion of ACA was enacted? Anyone?

Really? Where’s the money “saved”? This government lies 24/7. Do they really think the taxpayers are this stupid?

It must be nice for liberals to look at this rule and bask in the glory of their own cleverness. They have on their own limited the investment returns and waste of medical insurance companies . . . except that to cover the required profits and overhead (investors will leave without profit, and management will leave without competitive paychecks), all they have to do is jack up the premiums and the prices of the services. Unintended consequences are what the far left likes to call “unexpected”.

Created through the Affordable Care Act, the [80/20] rule requires insurers to spend at least 80 cents of every premium dollar on patient care and quality improvement.

Can you imagine the bureaucracy it's going to take to enforce this and does anyone think the gov't should be the final arbiter of what is or is not efficient in health care?

Yes. Most normal hardworking honest peoples’ insurance has gone up. I’d hazard to guess that if you carefully examined the data set from which they pulled this amazing news, one would find they were predominantly based on UNION jobs.

That said, I’ve maintained for a couple of decades now that if anyone could show me where Jimmy Hoffa is buried, I’d actually join a UNION. Given this past week’s news extravaganza re: same, I repledge that vow.

Too bad we can’t hold government to the same standard. How much of our tax money is wasted on bloated government salaries and administrative costs?

Don’t look so much at the content of the message. Rather, look at that broader picture here. The MSM is deliberately propagating falsehoods about this program. They’re front-loading the BS to allow politicians to cite “recent” or “previous” articles in MSM sources that confirmed we are saving money.

The lazy idiots on welfare won’t care, because everything for them will be subsidized. This is why I believe we’ll see massive civil unrest next year.
