Skip to comments.Sen. Marco Rubio on immigration bill: No 'parades' for me
Posted on 06/20/2013 5:41:15 AM PDT by Old Yeller
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is defending his participation in the Gang of Eights immigration bill efforts, saying he knows it wont win him any parades among conservatives, but its necessary.
Speaking Wednesday night with Fox Newss Sean Hannity, Rubio said he understands why conservatives are skeptical of immigration reform.
Look, its obvious I didnt do this for political gain. This is not something thats going to gain me any parades. People are frustrated, and I do understand it. What I hope they understand is that I studied this issue carefully for almost two years and I concluded that what we have in place right now is a disaster, Rubio said.
Saying that border security will be key to an immigration reform package, Rubio said an amendment he hopes will be introduced Thursday will ensure that those issues will be dealt with before any permanent legal residency measures.

Rubio has been getting flak from both conservatives and liberals for his participation in the Gang of Eight talks, and has not appeared publicly with his colleagues in the group since April.
Rubio said that given failures by the government in the past, he sees why conservatives arent happy with immigration reform efforts.
I think conservatives have a right to be skeptical about this. The federal government under both Republicans and Democrats in the past has failed to enforce our immigration laws. Thats why we have 11 million people here that are illegally here, Rubio said.
Still, Rubio said, keeping the status quo would be worse, describing it as de facto amnesty.
If we dont deal with this problem, and particularly with the border security but also identifying these people that are living in our country and start getting them to pay taxes and consequences for having violated our laws, were going to leave in place a disaster, a de facto amnesty disaster, Rubio said.
“Look, its obvious I didnt do this for political gain. This is not something thats going to gain me any parades. People are frustrated, and I do understand it. What I hope they understand is that I studied this issue carefully for almost two years and I concluded that what we have in place right now is a disaster, Rubio said.”
He’s started to talk DOWN to us like Hussein does.
Marco, a number of us on FR will be glad to school you as we have been studying and KNOW the issue a hell of a lot better than you or any of your aides ever did or will. But of course you don’t care as you have a predetermined conclusion.
It took him two years of studying this to determine that it’s really bad? So one can infer from his statement that his two years of studying the problem led him to a “solution” that would make it vastly worse.
What good is studying if come to the wrong conclusions?
“What we have now with Marco Rubio is a disaster”...there I fixed it
Amazing how many years such a number can remain static, with a daily flow across the border in the thousands.
Slow path to progress for U.S. immigrants: 43% on welfare after 20 years
The study, which covers all immigrants, legal and illegal, and their U.S.-born children younger than 18, found that immigrants tend to make economic progress by most measures the longer they live in the U.S. but lag well behind native-born Americans on factors such as poverty, health insurance coverage and homeownership.
The study, based on 2010 and 2011 census data, found that 43 percent of immigrants who have been in the U.S. at least 20 years were using welfare benefits, a rate that is nearly twice as high as native-born Americans and nearly 50 percent higher than recent immigrants.
so more amnesty from republicans helps our country how again?
We have all the laws needed for a self-sufficient and sovereign nation
Personally, I hope he ends up on the ash heap of diversity.
He’s traded traditional American Sovereignty for some loosely promised semblance of second-tier power in our government.
As far as I’m concerned, he is a traitor through and through.
It is NOT necessary. Doing nothing is preferable.
He did it for the Lobbyist and all that he gets from them. Just your average, corrupt politician.
Rubio you think we are stupid? You lay down with dogs you get fleas.
Good luck Marco on getting illegals to pay taxes and penalties. They breal laws everyday, why should they listen to your stupid laws? What do you think you would do? Arrest them? Throw them in jail?
You’re stupid Marco. But there is a vested interest behind you that has paid you off and eventually we will find out.
So your solution to this disaster was to double down on the 1986 strategy that created it? As my grandfather would have said: "That boy is dumber than the third squirt of goose shit."
Anywa...that's NOT what he told the Univision crowd last week:
He did do it for political gain...but it backfired!
Replacing a law we don't enforce with another law we won't enforce is a non-starter.
The people, freed to deal with the problem, could do a far better job.
“I think conservatives have a right to be skeptical about this. The federal government under both Republicans and Democrats in the past has failed to enforce our immigration laws. Thats why we have 11 million people here that are illegally here, Rubio said.
Still, Rubio said, keeping the status quo would be worse, describing it as de facto amnesty.
It is good that he has studied this for two years—during that time he must have discovered why immigration law since 1965 has created the “disaster”. Where is the evidence to suggest the illegals will pay taxes once they are given amnesty? Does Rubio not realize that the Dem party is also part of the equation and that the Dems see this as the windfall of all time. Does Rubio really believe the Dem’s will allow him to keep these illegals from voting and collecting the benefits of welfare in the US? Does he realize the magnitude of the disaster that will hit Americans if his legislative efforts do not produce the results he claims? Federal law never plays out exactly as predicted—that is a rule from the science of complexity.
The Rube’s solution to “de facto amnesty” is to make it de jure amnesty. By that way of thinking there’s no reason for any woman ever to be raped again. All she needs to to is forestall the fate worse than death by a timely compliance. Problem solved.
That would be too good for this pos.
He has done little to nothing in life other than run his mouth, and has gotten where he is by skillfully saying the philosophy moneyed party voters want to hear.
And, like with obama, the truth about who he really is eventually comes to light.
So...now, that we all know Rubio is just a poser who can speak "conservative" as fluently as he can Español, isn't it time to find out just who the hell is that "obama" dude pretending to be the President???
Why did Hannity give him any time last night? Michelle Malkin didn’t buy any of Rubio’s double speak. Malkin should replace BOR and Hannity on Fox.
“Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is defending his participation in the Gang of Eights immigration bill efforts, saying he knows it wont win him any parades among conservatives, but its necessary. “
Such a martyr.
No parades for sure. And next time,a surprising small number of votes as well.
It is NOT necessary. Doing nothing is preferable.
No ENFORCING existing laws is the answer !!!
Two words for Marco Rubio.... TED CRUZ !!
Or 20...............or 30..........
Dang, I would pay to see that.
There isn’t a snowballs chance in hell that this administration taken over by a bunch of one world scocialist (commies) will pass any controlling of the border. So why are the RINOS and GOPES (gop elite snobs) claiming their supporting “amnesty”? Beside destroying the Republican party. The very short sighted greedy goal of cheaper labor which in the end will lead to balkanization and strife in the future .
Find it strange when the excuse is being given that while the government knows whats going on in 300 million citizens lives but because the illegals are not citizens and in “the shadows” according to Florida’s Senator Rubio the US doesn’t know who they are or where they’re comming from so we must make them citizens..
FR’s are urged to visit their respective Congressional Representatives and let them know their feelings http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3032787/posts
WHEN IT COMES TO AMNESTY
THIS IS THE MEXICAN PART NO ONE DARES MENTION
If you agree with the above and the following please don’t let it lay here in FR-land. Pass it on to to your favorite talk show host and to your US legislators. PUSH THE HASTERT RULE.
ONE NATIONALITY AMNESTY SKEWS QUOTAS. AMNESTY FOR NATIONALS FROM A COUNTRY THAT HAS CLAIMS ON OUR NATIONAL TERRITORY WILL AND IS NOW LEADING TO STRIFE ..IT STOPS OTHERS FROM SOUTH AMERICA, HURTS AMERICAN CITIZENS PARTICULARLY BLACK AND SKILLED LABOR FROM OTHER NATIONS
In that May 3rd speech Obama gave before the Mexican Anthropological Museum in which he blamed America for the violence in Mexico I believe he went even futhur. Theres a inference but never referenced by name to the Gasden purchase and border settlements US made with Mexico where Obama hinted he seems to side with the Mexican claims. Would those in attendence share that view is a question that should be asked, because I believe they would,.he does.
SOLVING THE ‘LATINO” PROBLEM A MYTH HISPANIC IS NOT A RACE BUT A POLITICAL LINGUISTIC CONTRIVANCE ...don’t fall into the hyphenated Americans trap created by the hyphenated political party ...The DEMO-COMS
The Mexicans have been getting most favorable treatment above the rest of our neighbors both north and south. Theyre permitted to cross our borders and enter illegally and are allowed access to rights of citizenship (with the exception of voting which if the democrat party regains control over the House will happen) other nationals entering this country dont get.. Worse yet the Obama government has been working hand in glove with Mexican movements such as LaRaza supporting the Mexican claims which are also supporting “Amnesty”.
Also by allowing Mexicans to do this any quota ration for immigration from other south and central American countrys are taken up by Mexicans while that country is laying claim to a large chunk of our sovereign territory is a recipe for later serious problems which are happening now.
ARE MEXICAN ILLEGALS SQUATTERS PERPETUATING THE MEXICAN CLAIMS ?
We are already seeing the result of this in certain areas claimed by the Mexicans. Their national flag (standard) gets displayed over ours. Where there is a controlling number of Mexican nationals (illegals). Its displayed over certain institutions particularly schools accompanied by riots and disturbances. Blacks are threatend by Mexicans in certain sections of citys in those areas. Were courting trouble by not placing a value on our sovereignty and our citizenship.
MOST COINS OF THE REALM HAVE TWO FACES WHAT ABOUT HOW ARE AMERICAN CITIZENS LIVING IN MEXICO BEING TREATED ?
Worse yet if a US citizen goes into Mexico never mind illegaly but legally. Theyll get 2nd class treatment. Land ownership in title is prohibited period. And there are a slew of regulations they must comply with. Which doesnt apply to a citizen of Mexico
THE SOLUTION ASSERT OUR SOVEREIGNTY AND TALK RECIPROCITY .
By not insisting on reciprocity particularly on those who have entered this country illegally were offering no incentive for assimilation and were not easing the burden for our fellow citizens who for what ever reason decided to live in Mexico.
ENOUGH OF THE ONE WORLD SOCIALISM ...BRING BACK SOVEREIGNTY AND SANITY TO OUR COUNTRY .....BRING BACK BELIEF IN GOD ...THIS GOVERNMENT OUT OUR FACE..... OUR RELIGIONS..... AND OUR BEDROOMS..
Sean believes the spiel and I believe he's sincere when he says he's a conservative, but he doesn't own the mic and is beholden to those who do. Much more so than Rush, due to his stature, or Levin, who is a force of nature all by himself.
The way Rubio and, to a lesser degree, Ryan have been taken out with this issue has been instructive.
It helps to remove as many personal biases as you can in order to see the players. They use them to hide.
“What I hope they understand is that I studied this issue carefully for almost two years and I concluded that what we have in place right now is a disaster”
It’s not your job to study things and come to conclusions. You are not some university researcher. It is your job to vote according to the will of your constituents. Kind of like Fox News, you report, WE decide.
Limbaugh’s friend Marco Rubio has betrayed our country.
A Parade is appropriate.
Going out of town with Senor Rubio attired in TAR AND FEATHERS
You’re right. The RINOs are basically giving us the “lie back and try to enjoy it” advice.
Rubio should go back to see another Cuban, who tried to destroy, Fidel. You can bet Fidel would welcome him with open arms for destroying the USA.
>THE SOLUTION ASSERT OUR SOVEREIGNTY AND TALK RECIPROCITY .
By not insisting on reciprocity particularly on those who have entered this country illegally were offering no incentive for assimilation and were not easing the burden for our fellow citizens who for what ever reason decided to live in Mexico.<
Here, here! Until Mexico changes its laws to mirror ours, we should not give preferential treatment, even if disguised with a few years of wait time (13 years is NOTHING in historical terms) to millions of its citizens.
I am hoping the voters send him out on a rail
You send them home until unemployment drops to 4%. You stop unemployment payments after 6 months and it’s all fixed.
Not just any ordinary conservative, mind you. Hannity is a "Reagan Conservative". Just ask him.
Someone once told me that personality is a device the ego uses to get what it wants.
So, we define our selves, just as we also choose to define our definitions, as we like them and (usually) our pretense to be. Sales is a part of almost everything, it seems.
My perception is, Sean is an average sort of guy who works hard to pull off/carry what he's been given to wear, but I generally think he's sincere.
I also have no doubts he's saying what "they" want said, just as he cuts off or talks over or interrupts what "they" don't like to hear.
One doesn't need to be the sharpest tool in the shed to be a well used and favorite tool. Such is Sean in the FNC tool shed.
Hannity is a Party boy first and conservative second or third. O’rielly is just a liberal windbag who needs his ass kicked up one side and down the other.
Rush needs to call out the Rube for the scoundrel politician he is. This is hurting Rush’s credibility.
Agreed. Some of the things Hannity does, such as his support for veterans and our fallen and wounded warriors, are truly magnificent and worthy of the highest praise. But as far as political expression goes, for me Hannity is 'Conservatism for Beginners'. But yes, he's sincere.
Marco, Marco, Marco.........you’ve crossed the Rubicon now and true consevatives no longer dig your chili!
You have bought into Republican E “theories” that the Hispanic vote was determinative last year when it really wasn’t. Can you not perform that simple math? Your just afraid! You watched the Republican E devour Sarah Palin and do everything they could against her presidential campaign including not supporting her monetarily. The result is the E’s have threatened you with a Palin repeat if you don’t get in line with the E’s wishes on immigration. Bottom line, your just another spineless politician masquerading as a conservative to pick up some votes. Like Bobby Jindal said........”your stuck on stupid”. Actually, he said ALL pubbies are and I agree!
