FBI director admits domestic use of drones

The FBI uses drones for domestic surveillance purposes, the head of the agency told Congress early Wednesday.

Robert Mueller, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, confirmed to lawmakers that the FBI owns several unmanned aerial vehicles, but has not adopted any strict policies or guidelines yet to govern the use of the controversial aircraft.

“Does the FBI use drones for surveillance on US soil?” Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) asked Mr. Mueller during an oversight hearing on Capitol Hill Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“Yes,” Mueller responded bluntly, adding that the FBI’s operation of drones is “very seldom.”

Asked by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California) to elaborate, Mueller added, “It’s very seldom used and generally used in a particular incident where you need the capability.” Earlier in the morning, however, Mueller said that the agency was only now working to establish set rule for the drone program.

Yeah, you can bet they already have guidelines, because they are bureaucrats and bureaucrats don’t do anything without making a telephone book full of rules first. He just doesn’t want to tell us what they are, probably because he knows that the American people would not approve of them.

I am glad that Sen. Chuck Grassley asked the question, and Mr. Mueller actually had a reply.
Mr. Snowden is spreading out information that is clearing up a lot of illegal domestic spying.
‘The question should have been are they ARMED drones?’
Cyman
Excellent suggestion Cyman.

"This is so illegal."

Unfortunately, it's perfectly legal. It is, however, an abuse of power, and possible violation of existing administrative guidelines for electronic intercepts, and tracking subjects of investigation. Law enforcement does it every day while piloting manned patrol aircraft. There is a legal concept known as "open fields." No warrant needed for law enforcement to peer into or enter upon private property if something is seen from the roadway, or while flying over head. The new wrinkle here is drones can be used to circumvent requisite court order approvals for GPS tracking of subjects, and electronic eaves dropping.

“You’ll have no way of knowing these are around. (and who precisely has sent them)”

BOL not at this issue but re how available drones with cameras are for the rest of us.

A younger relative moving into puberty a couple of years ago wanted a remote controlled helicopter/a drone/ with a video cam for Christmas.

He would launch it from his bedroom window on a covered deck on hot summer afternoons.

There were a lot of swimming pools, and he would fly the basically quiet drone over the various pools to check on the cougars swimming in the nude or close to nude, with the camera on. Then fly the drone back, land it and remove the memory chip.

If the chip showed showed something of interest, he put another memory chip into his drone with recharged battery and flew it back to the point of interest for more “recon.”

I imagine when the tech gets advanced enough most pervs will have video of their neighbors.

Including the 8yr old girls and 9yr old boys they’re interested in. That fly perched in the top corner of your bathroom? Maybe it’s the neighborhood perv taking a video of your 9yr old son taking a shower.

And home invaders need only perch near one of the keypads and wait for the homeowner to punch in the code.

Or do an in house recon to see what’s available to stealing and where it is. To save time.

Think the feds won’t be in your closets looking for gun cases?

How high or how low is that legal? If a drone can fly 6 feet above the ground, over my property, is that legal? Should it be?

I don’t what will be worse, criminals, perverts or the feds using drones to monitor an invade our homes.

This tech is already way down the rabbit hole in how it will completely change human interaction and expectations.

It will be possible for the neighbor up the street, who doesn’t like the fact that you have THREE Gaia destroying children to remediate that. Anonymously and at their leisure.

Or the next AQ attack to be completed from a Starbucks cafe via iPhone.

We’re not going to even go into targeted political assassinations. That ‘heart attack’ or ‘Flu’ that politician expired from? May have been a genomically targeted pathogen designed for just their DNA makeup.

And those 3rd world countries that can’t really affect us militarily now? They need only purchase a couple thousand cheap parrot sized drones, arm them with explosives, and fly them into and around the green zone (or NYC, or DC) at their leisure. Or target nuclear reactors. Or refineries. Or schools. Or just use your imagination here.

The elites haven’t quite grasped the technology they’ve released here. While it’ll be bad enough for the peons they don’t have anything to ‘gain’ from killing the neighbor up the street like the elites will have in targeting one another for control of their power structures.

Those lovely outdoor weddings their daughters seem to favor? Things of the past when this tech gets ramped up.

This is the character who thinks the Tea Party is a possible terrorist organization.

Do you see what is going on? They are not using drones to stop illegal aliens but they are using it against American citizens. We need to stop this BS. Vote any politician (Democrat or Republican) who supports this crap out of office.
