We've Been Played on Immigration

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: We go to immigration. In a remarkable turn of events, all eight Gang of Eight members voted to table the Grassley amendment, to have control of the border for six months before the amnesty kicks in. And, by the way, don't call it amnesty. It isn't amnesty. That's the latest claim from the powers that be. The Grassley amendment to the Gang of Eight bill simply said we would gain control of the border for six months before any other aspect of the bill -- which is exactly what we were told was supported from the get-go. That's exactly what we were told the condition was: Border security first, or nothing. Now of course that's out the window. So is the Grassley amendment out the window with control of the border for six months.

And again, this despite the sponsors having -- I don't know. I thought I was promised. I thought we were all promised that enforcement would be the key here. I also thought there would be an open amendment process. There's polling data that shows the American people want enforcement first by a 4-to-1 margin. But none of this makes any sense. Try as I have, I can't understand how it makes any sense. I don't understand how the Republicans do not understand what they're doing to themselves with this. I do not understand how it is they do not see what's happening. I don't understand how they don't get what the Democrats are doing, how the Democrats are playing them. I don't get it.

We've talked about this. The Hispanic vote was not even 8% of the electorate. There was a poll out -- I mentioned this to you some weeks ago -- if Romney had got 70% of the Hispanic vote -- and no Republican ever has the -- he still would not have won. The Republicans got 37% of the Hispanic vote back in 1984. Then in 1986, they did amnesty. Then they got 30%. They lost 7% of the Hispanic vote after amnesty in 1988 election when George H. W. Bush ran. The polling data is clear: 70% of the Hispanic voters are gonna vote Democrat no matter what. You bring 11 to 12 million new people out of the shadows, and they're -- I don't know what I'm missing. On the surface, what it appears is -- and I can't believe this. It appears that the Republicans really do fear what the Democrats tell them, that the Hispanics hate you, the Hispanics don't like you, the Hispanics are never gonna vote for you unless you change your opinion on immigration.

I try to put myself in the position of being a Republican in the House or the Senate. I can't for the life of me understand it. I don't understand how they don't see what this is going to do to their party. For the life of me, I don't understand it. Nobody has been able to make me understand what I'm missing. What is the secret that we don't get? What's the secret that we're missing, that they know, that we don't know? Because, on the surface, this doesn't appear to make any sense.

Come on, ElRushbo.. Hey man, you’ve been around for a long time... but we are not just travelers out here. Rubio was shown to be an opportunist/little con when he walked away from the very Tea Party groups here in Florida that helped him. We were screaming that he left us. No one cared. Rubio is too immature also.

Marco Rubio is only partly right but mostly dishonest. His parents are Cuban. They probably will vote for Conservatives but NOT because of any Immigration Bill which is really Amnesty. Rubio’s ancestors have no horse in this race. In fact, they probably already have voted for the least socialist, most conservative candidates in the past.

Cubans merely have to float on our beaches to legally be able to stay in the US. Rubio knows nothing beyond Cubans when it comes to Hispanics and especially Illegals.

On everything else, Rubio is either wrong or very dishonest. The republicans will gain NOTHING voting for Amnesty for illegals. And even if they were to gain something, why not also forgive federal loans to all college students, why not also pay off loans for every American? After the next school shooting, why not jump on the band wagon before the democrats and just ban all guns?

What is politically expedient is not always the right thing to do.

he Last Chance Train is chugging away from the depot.

If Rubio harbors any hope of ressurecting himself from his last three months of insanity this may be his last good chance.

.......and the dimocRATS will paint Rubio with the “read my lips, no new taxes!” GHWB, making fun of him, reminding Republicans each and every day, of his lying and deceiving those Republicans who believed him, when he claimed that he would NOT vote for anything that didn’t “secure the borders FIRST!”

The greatest danger that we face is John Boehner.

It appears that he will bring the Amnesty Bill to the floor of the House, although the majority of House Republicans oppose the legislation.

If the Senate passes Amnesty, Boehner will try to pass the legislation with 100% of the Democrats and a handful of RINO’s voting for the Bill.

The only hope for America is for people to call their Republican Representatives in the House, and implore them to oppose Boehner and Cantor bringing Amnesty to the floor of the House for Democratic passage.

You would think black leaders would be against this since unemployment is so high for them. But I guess they just want power, not take care of the people.

EXACTLY! The democrats have done it time and time again and I remember how they did exactly what you said to George HW Bush. It was a major issue during the Bush vs Clinton campaign and Bush lost.

If Todd Akin himself had voted for non-restricted abortions it would become a MAJOR issue during the next election he faced.

The dems LOVE to run ads to split the opposition.

What's the secret that we're missing, that they know, that we don't know?

First and foremost politicians are interested in protecting their careers. McCain, Rubio, border states, they believe that the inevitable result will be some sort of legalization for a majority of the illegals.
Given that scenario, they probably think that it is best to try to get out in front and try to manage it somehow .
Trying to take a principled stand against an inevitable result is heroic. But heroes don't last long in politics (Palin, West, Bachman, etc.).

It would be great if representatives cared what their constituents think and want but that day looks to be long passed. The black community is not happy with amnesty for illegals either. The black community senses (correctly) they are about to be bent over again to take one for the team. The black community is experiencing extremely high unemployment and they also recognize this will not help their situation for their young.

Amnesty for Illegals should come with unconditional TAX Amnesty for everyone in perpetuity.....

Otherwise, NO MAS!

98% of those who will be legalized are Mexican.
Rubio is Cuban. Those things don’t necessarily equate.

Cruz is an american that just happens to have Cubian ancestry.
